Right wing Catholics are a small minority, mostly in the US, and a disgrace to our faith. We are a socialist religion. US 'catholicism' doesn't represent the Catholic faithful... It's more of an evangelical fundo Jewish cult. Most Catholics in the USA are faithful to the Pope, actually. It was only a couple on the Yahoo Catholic forum that I encountered that bashed the Pope. The afore-mentioned Catholic website which I was telling geode about, earlier on this topic thread, had several that bashed the late Holy Father, though. Didn’t Christ say not to call anybody on earth Father? Especially not “Holy Father”.

Paul wrote:“I do not write this to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel” (1 Cor. 4:14–15)

I don't identify with any religion, and I don't believe God does either.

What religion/philosophy do you most strongly identify with? There probably are, but since I don't know every single Christian church there is, and wouldn't care to join one anyway, I am non-denominational. I believe in God, in Jesus as being sent by God. I don't believe in Original Sin and I think that we are all capable of earning God's forgiveness for any sins we do commit. Do you mean we are capable on our own of earning God's forgiveness for our sins, or must we also believe in and rely on Jesus?

I feel no matter who or what we are He is merciful. Then that means that non-Christians also get God's forgiveness. But isn't that incompatible with believing that Jesus was sent by God? If Jesus was sent by God, it stands to reason that he was speaking God's truth to people. And didn't Jesus teach that to be saved from your sins you must believe in him? (For example, John 8:24 - "I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins.")

I told you what I believe. I can't answer for all of the Christian religions.

I told you what I believe. I can't answer for all of the Christian religions. I'm not asking you to answer for others. My question is based strictly on what you said you believe (and its apparent self contradiction).

I know I'm not explaining it very well. You see it as me being self contradictory and maybe you have a point, but It's hard to put into words what I feel. There are so many good people that don't believe in God or Jesus, but since I believe that God is merciful I tend to think that God, who sees into the heart of all of us, will judge us by our actions, believer or not. Maybe it doesn't make much sense, but that's what I feel.

Maybe it doesn't make much sense, but that's what I feel. That makes perfect sense. But it contradicts what Jesus taught about needing to believe in him in order to receive God's mercy. How can anyone believe Jesus was sent by God, and yet also believe that something he taught was wrong?
