No love for Spike Lee? Either way, my vote goes to Born on the Fourth of July.

No love for Spike Lee? Either way, my vote goes to Born on the Fourth of July. That is a rather glaring omission now that you mention it, especially when the OP lists Ghostbusters II.

It's listed in Other.

That is just lazy. Even if one of YOUR favorite movies of 1989 is Ghostbuster II, to list over one of the most praised movies of the entire decade is ridiculous.

What do you want from me, to list every single film of 1989? I haven't seen the film you're talking about and didn't know it was considered great. As should be obvious, if a film isn't listed then just vote other and specify the title in your post.

To list one of the 5 most praised movies of the year in a poll titled "Best film of 1989" isn't too much to ask. If you are going to do a poll like this, than I suggest you do some research first. I am not trying to be mean or rude, I am trying to make a point.

Other--Do the Right Thing, not only the best film of the year, but arguably the best American film of the decade.

1. Batman (the greatest superhero movie of the 80s)
2. Lethal Weapon 2 (the crown jewel of the franchise)
3. Pet Sematary (a chilling adaptation of one of King's finest works)

My own subjective "bests"
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade UHF Batman
"Do the Right Thing" best of the '80s? I think we need to think about what other films came out in the '80s before anyone takes that film that far...

Whether you personally think it is is beside the point. To show you I am not being biased, I personally don't love it.

All the rest besides Superman II suck. Superman II is also great - though I favour The Richard Donner Cut over the 1980 version. I also have a soft spot for Superman III. I know that's not a common viewpoint.

I know that's not a common viewpoint. I know it has it's fans, but I can't stand it. I actually prefer Superman IV, if only for Gene Hackman.
