It’s a tradition now for the critics to complain about the lack of engaging human characters in every Godzilla movie. Even when they try (the 2014 movie), people hate it. I’m not saying the critics are wrong, but it’s such a predictable knock at this point.
Why don’t they just make a Godzilla movie taking place in the Jurassic period? A 90 minute movie with no dialogue and only telling the story of Godzilla throwing down with some other Kaiju in the time of the dinosaurs would be sweet.

Too artsy for the studios to wrap their heads around.

The 2014 movie tried? Maybe for the first 20 minutes, then the only interesting human died and we were left with Stoic Soldier Man.

This reminds me of how at one point Don Bluths Land Before Time and Disney's Dinosaur were originally supposed to have the dinosaurs not speak. I think The Good Dinosaur might have been planned like that at one point too. Of course in all cases the film makers or studios chickened out and the dinos spoke. Heaven forbid someone try to actually get creative and try their hands at actual visual art.
All that said, a Godzilla film without people would feel weird, large cities being destroyed is part of the appeal.

Okay, but who goes to a Godzilla movie for the human characters?! The critics want freakin' Shakespeare in a creature feature. GTFO with that.

I remember being surprised the dinos talked in the theater. Honestly would have been a better movie if they didn't.

But the rapidly expanding world of the MonsterVerse could open the doors for all kinds of movies centering around the gigantic monsters, including a Godzilla prehistoric movie stretching back to ancient times. That’s what Mike Dougherty told JoBlo he would be interested in making next, dubbing the film Godzilla B.C.: “I like the idea of going back in time and telling creatures’ stories from different eras. Skull Island was set in the ’70s, but personally I’d like to do ‘GODZILLA B.C.,’ go back to ancient times and really see the Ray Harryhausen-esque world where primitive humans had to try to survive with these creatures. Maybe we’d get to see the first time mankind truly encountered Godzilla, and get to see how that relationship was christened.”

I actually enjoyed Godzilla 2014 because it put more emphasis on the people.

I know that I am going to get Absolutely DESTROYED for saying this but.....I actually liked the human characters in "GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS", especially the characters played by Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Ken Watanabe, Zhang Ziyi, and Charles Dance.

I think that is a poor argument.
Godzilla (2014) is just a badly written movie. They may have tried to write good human characters, but they failed miserably imo. Why they killed off Bryan Cranston's character so early in the movie is a mystery to me.

Why do you always say "I know I will be destroyed for this," when nobody ever seems to care much either way? It isn't as if people HATE the human characters in that movie. I just mean that I think most people expect many of your opinions to be very idiosyncratic.

I enjoyed Minuscule: Valley of the Lost Ants so I'd try out a movie like that. But Godzilla is about wreaking havoc against civilization so I don't think that it would work too well with Godzilla in particular.

Well, I also watch a lot of videos on YOUTUBE about many different things in Movies and TV Shows and a lot of those videos and the reactions from people in them on many occasions give me the impression that I may be in the minority when it comes to something that I myself like (the characters that I mentioned in " GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS" for example).

Well you are in the minority about a lot of stuff I think, but I haven't noticed many people on IMDB2 care all that much about what you think in that way. I mean we all of have minority opinions and everybody knows this. ie. I am use to you at this point, so I just expect to disagree with a lot of what you say.

I can think of two cool ideas regarding Godzilla and other monsters. Maybe do one set in very early Ancient Egyptian times or Sumerian. Godzilla rising out of what is now the Persian Gulf getting ready to destroy the city of Ur would be pretty amazing. Or stomping his way up the Nile Delta and destroying the then new pyramids would be a sight to see. Another thing I was thinking about was a post apocalyptic monster film where the monsters have destroyed most of humanity and duke it out among the ruins of New York City or Tokyo with a small band of humans trying to avoid being extinct.

Why they killed off Bryan Cranston's character so early in the movie is a mystery to me. Me too. It took half an hour to sink in the Bryan Cranston's character died. I picked it up later on the re watch but I didn't notice it at the time for what it was because of how little sense it made.
