It's all for ratings.
The NBA posted more articles about Drake wearing a Toronto Dell Curry Jersey and feuding with the Warriors players than they did who won the game.
NBA Playoffs ratings have declined and they needed a gimmick. Trying to recreate that Reggie Miller/ Spike Lee drama from the 1990s.

well - somebody needs to care about Toronto and bring in some pub, no? it's actually smart marketing by a giant corporation knowing full well nobody really cares about Toronto despite having one of the best players in the game - they're just 'vanilla' it's the Finals - and the 'casual fan' even tunes in at times. willing to bet even some of the 'casual fans' have never even heard of Kawhi - but Drake? we're not talking Elvis here but at least it's something.

I don't see the harm unless he's confronting players in-game. Sure he's vocal & taunting as any fan would, but until he's instigating between the opening tip & final buzzer, who cares.

it's old school Spike Lee light.
sports to me is entertainment. I love when the camera pans and you see celebs supporting 'your' team and hometown.
hell - even the Draymond post game presser about Drake last night was entertaining as they had words after the game - to me it's good for the game - old saying in life - no publicity is bad publicity - and the fact Toronto is now up 1-0 shows even the hardcore fan that they have a shot now.
that siakam kid you guys have is off the charts. think he was taken the same draft the sixers had 2 picks in the late teens/20s and selected TLC and Furkan - two epic busts.

Are you under the impression that Spike Lee's antics weren't staged?

Very likely it is staged, yes. Drake may be trying to do the Raptors, and the NBA in general a favor, but he's not doing himself any favors. He's making an ass of himself whether he realizes it or not.

Are you under the impression that Spike Lee's antics weren't staged? Sure, he was trying to PROMOTE the NY Knicks as the LA Lakers of the East Coast and bring news/press coverage. I get it. In this case, the NBA needs ratings and I'm sure it was some kind of gentleman deal between Adam Silver and Drake.

What do you think would have changed for the Sixers if they had taken Tatum over Fultz.

What do you think would have changed for the Sixers if they had taken Tatum over Fultz. they wouldn't have.
even if they stayed put at #3 and not traded up. he was never in their plans. they may have nabbed Fox if they stayed put at #3 - but not Tatum.
they needed a combo guard to run next to Simmons - i.e. somebody who can play the '2' but also the '1' - Fultz was the consensus #1 by the masses - even in Summer League prior to his rookie season he was popping Js left and right from the outside.
they still need that 'Combo Guard' since Ben won't shoot - Fultz was supposed to be it - that was the plan. I love JJ but if he comes back - I want him as a 6th man next year - getting older.
it was the right move at the time.
We had our big 3 right there - Joel, Ben and Fultz.
I wish the best for the kid. Look at the way D'Lo turned his career around - just needed a change of scenery - not playing doctor here - but I think the kid has some mental issues (and it's not just confidence) - watching him from afar over the past 2 years - he's like a 12 year old child living amongst men.
The fascinating thing to me is - he was the consensus #1 - but Ainge saw something. Something he didn't like. I don't care about a brutal pre draft workout where he shot poorly. Ainge saw something in his demeanor and character he didn't like.
Is what it is. Hope the kids turns into a star with the Magic - but being he hasn't played one game for the Magic - I think this kid needs to go off to Tibet to work on his head and find some peace.
