Saw it for the first time on VHS as a kid in the early 90s. The best movie of 1989 and the best film to ever star Jack Nicholson IMO.

the best film to ever star Jack Nicholson IMO. Better than Cuckoo's Nest? The Shining? Chinatown?

In my youth, I favoured Batman Returns. These days, it's more of a tie between the two, although I still think Returns feels a bit more polished in places. Add The Dark Knight to the mix and you've got my Top 3. The order isn't important though.

Returns gets better for me as time goes by.

It's really Amazing sometimes how fast time can go by.
I didn't see the Movie in Theaters when it came out but I remember being So Excited while at the same time just waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for it to come out on VHS so that my parents could go and rent it for me.

That movie has so many iconic and memorable moments going for it.

This movie is so much fun. Take out the art museum destruction scene to the tune of Prince and it’s perfect.

I can agree with all of the positive posts here, as well as the negative posts. "Batman" and it's sequel are two of my favorite movies, for sure. Like a couple other people, I didn't see this movie in theaters but I have dozens of memories of watching it before "Batman Returns" came out. Both films I enjoy equally for different reasons. I like antagonists, in all type films, so that never strayed me from the lack of Batman scenes these movies had. I also favor the Nolan Batman movies in many ways, but these two early Batman films have something those movies don't I think. 'Style' that fit the closing decade of the '80s pop culture and new decade of technology in the '90s. I equally enjoyed all of the casting choices which could've gone a dozen different other ways, which I'll mention below. Director Tim Burton and composer Danny Elfman I've respectfully followed the careers of for all future years. They've had their hits and misses but I'm happy to say more hits than misses. This film and it's sequel I still think is their best collaborations together, and they were the best thing together between 1985 - 1999. @ Popeye Doyle ... Awesome movie gifs of "Batman". I had a MySpace way back where I had a wall of like 60 of my favorite movie gifs before getting out of gifs completely. Until, joining this website a few months ago. I appreciate the gif story. For some "Batman" trivia below, don't quote me but my facts are 95% on point word-for-word, hope the opinion helps:
Character 'Batman/Bruce Wayne' was not Tim Burton's first choice to cast Michael Keaton in the part. Actor Brad Dourif, who was raw talent and an underrated actor at the time, as well as for all of his career; was instead Burton's first choice. However, Warner Bros. didn't see his name selling the tickets for a starring role and passed on him, which then lead to one of Burton's following choices in Michael Keaton. And well, Dourif continued to give us Chucky-voiced performances in the "Child's Play" movies as well as numerous horror films and antagonist roles for the rest of his career. Character 'The Joker', Warner Bros. demanded for a star actor to play the lead role and targeted Jack Nicholson from the start, who turned it down. The production company went ahead hiring and cast actor Robin Williams in the role of, 'The Joker'. In which, Nicholson got word of and saw Williams' interest in the role, then telling studios he was now interested in the part. Warner Bros. "let go" Williams, in which Williams contested by saying he would never make a Warner Bros. picture until they apologized. The company apologized and William's first Warner Bros. film back was "Being Human" (1994). Williams went on to give us award winning and comedic/dramatic performances for the rest of his career.
Character 'Vicki Vale' was beautifully written and performed by Kim Basinger, who I myself think looked in her prime for at least a decade straight. However, she was not the first choice for the role. Already hired and cast in the role was actress Sean Young, who had an already established resume with hit movies like "Blade Runner" and "Wall Street". Two weeks before filming she suffered a severe horse injury that had Basinger come in last minute to replace the part. Actress Sean Young did audition for the role of 'Selina Kyle/Catwoman' in "Batman Returns" but was passed over. She continued acting doing over three dozen roles in film and TV.
Director Tim Burton set out to direct a third Batman film but after the distaste of his antagonists in the second film, "let go" of his directing duties for a third film. Actor Michael Keaton also parted ways saying, "If Burton goes, I go". Tim Burton did say in an interview years later that one of his first proudest moments in directing the first "Batman" film, was when he saw a child, who was wearing a 'Batman' emblem movie T-shirt, jump through the newly fallen Berlin Wall in 1991.
For an ending movie track that I think sums up the Caped Crusader, Dark Knight, Batman character. "The Lego Movie" - Self Portrait

Gee, 30 years old. Isn't it about time they did another Batman movie? Or maybe a tv show? yeah, how about a tv show related to the Batman universe. If they don't do something Batman related soon people may forget he exists.
