In the movie "Son in Law" (1993) The story wants you to believe Travis the High School jock and sweetheart of Becca is the villain of the movie.
Here is a 5 part Thread about Becca being the Villain.
A) Travis is Becca's H.S. sweetheart. Becca goes off to California to college. He stays at home and works on his new career right out of school, for their future. There is no evidence he's cheating on her. Even if he is, they are in a long distance relationship and he's just exploring his options at age 18. He's not engaged or married.
B) When his girlfriend comes home for Thanksgiving Travis decides he has settled on Becca and wants to marry her. Becca leads him on over the phone this whole time. She brings Crawl (Pauly Shore) home and says he's just a friend. Travis begins to propose to Becca in the barn where they shared intimate moments together in H.S. She realizes what he's about to do and she cuts him off. IT IS AT THIS POINT Becca should have been honest with Travis and say, "You know, I'm just not ready to get married. Maybe we can date or just stay friends and date other people and see what the future holds?" Plus, she could let him down gently in private. Instead she continues to lead him on.
C) Then he invites her family to his family's Country Club, knowing full well what he's going to do. And he does, he proposes IN FRONT OF HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY! Then she kicks Crawl and forces him to interrupt, and he says they are already engaged and that's why he really came home with Becca. He's now hurt and humiliated. AGAIN! IN THE HALLWAY OF THE COUNTRY CLUB, Travis gives Becca another chance to tell the truth, he says "I thought you said he was just a friend from school, why didn't you tell me the truth?" He gave her the opening, she STILL LIES!
D) Next Travis decides Crawl is the ONLY reason Becca dumped him, and that if he makes it look like Crawl is cheating she will come back to him. HE ONLY BELIEVES THIS BECAUSE Becca hasn't told him the truth, that she doesn't want him, it has nothing to do with Crawl.
E) She lies to her poor family, mom, dad, grandpa. She forces Crawl to lie to her family and puts him in an awkward situation. He has to pretend he's going to be a farmer and support her just to try and calm her family down. Then she gets pissed when Travis makes it look like Tracy and Crawl cheated in their barn.
In the end, Theo gets fired, Travis gets his reputation ruined, her dad loses thousands of dollars in property damage caused by Crawl because he doesn't know how to farm and ruins their ranch/equipment. Tracy will be rumored as a local town whore, all because Becca couldn't tell the truth the moment she gets home for Thanksgiving Vacation. And she ends up being the hero of the film? She ruined so many lives and Travis was taken on an emotional roller coaster. What he did was wrong, trying to make Crawl look like a cheater, but that is NOTHING compared to Becca.
