*Note: I am excluding the MCU otherwise it would just dominate everything. But I consider the MCU to be the greatest cinematic achievement of the decade, sci fi or otherwise. I am excluding this decade's Xmen movies too for the same reason. I guess that narrows it down a lot, but yeah otherwise everything would be MCU and X-men.

2010 NONE 2011 Another Earth / Mike Cahill 2012 NONE 2013 Gravity / Alfonso Cuarón 2014 Predestination / Michael and Peter Spierig 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road / George Miller* 2016 Arrival / Denis Villeneuve 2017 NONE 2018 Annihilation / Alex Garland
*As per discussion on another thread (I did not participate at the time), my personal preference is to consider films about future civilizations, even post-apocalyptic, to be science fiction because they show what science has brought us to.

Not a fan of Blade Runner 2049 or War for the Planet of the Apes?

I wasn't a huge fan of Blade Runner 2049 because for one thing it left all the interesting plot developments for a sequel. I haven't seen War for the Planet of the Apes or Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I saw Rise and that was pretty good but I found the idea from the old series where the apes took over gradually after being treated as pets for hundreds of years to be a more interesting story whereas the new prequel series aimed for more of an action filled blockbuster approach that didn't have as much appeal for me.
