Summer 1989 - Indiana Jones, Batman, and the Ghostbusters. Though it lacks the edge of the original, definitely not without its moments. Also, still quotable. Bobby Brown's "On Our Own" speaks to an entire generation. If you watch the original music video, both Christopher Reeve (Superman) and Donald Trump (Luthor) appear. The look of the film also shows what a difference five years make. The visual effects from ILM are also pretty good, too. With the positively charged slime, it's still unclear how Lady Liberty can walk. She lack any articulation. Even more puzzling is the first act where everyone is treating the Ghostbusters as frauds. This only makes sense if the events of the first film didn't happen.

A decent and underrated sequel.

And the original celebrates its 35th this month.
LICENSE TO KILL also came out that Summer as well.
I felt it underrated as well. Love the triumphant music.
I suppose the backlash was due to the population trying to come to terms with unexplained ghost happenings and decided 'Fake' was the best resort. Similar in the first season of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, explain away things they can't understand.

Bill Murray was lied to about the script. He thought it was going to be more adult.
Because of the cartoon and children following they cut/altered...
- Sexual Jokes - Smoking - Janine is more like the cartoon - Ghosts are more cartooish - Less adlib (which is Murray's wheelhouse) - River of slime was originally blood. (First teaser trailer it was red)
They basically rehashed the plot points of part I with lesser characters and lines. Walter Peck was replaced by the Mayor's lackey.
That being said, it's still a solid sequel. Despite all the changes and rewrites the main Ghostbusters just had so much chemistry it saves the film.

Tell the truth, the Animated Series in its earlier seasons had a less-lighter tone. And I can't reconcile either Toon Janine (the sexier, feistier version of the first seasons & the softer, Girl-Next-Door version of the latter seasons) with the ditzier Janine in the sequel.

LOL, I still very much remember back when I first saw "GHOSTBUSTERS 2" at the Movie Theater.
I was just a little kid but I really enjoyed the movie and I still do today.
That Bath Tub Scene scared the heck out of me though!

"Ghostbusters II" I saw when I was a kid at 7-years-old, so it'll always be a favorite childhood film for me as well as the first movie. I did find this sequel to be a lot less scary, entertaining but not as thrilling as the first movie. Even as a kid, it felt more kid friendly as opposed adult friendly as the first film. Example, the library ghost and opening scenes in the first movie just gave a much more eerie feeling that you could still imagine existing today in an old library anywhere. With a very realistic library-looking ghost. In the second movie, however, you get a lot more baby scenes, the good slime which takes over the Statue of Liberty, and Vigo; in which I said, "That's one of those German bad guys from Die Hard!", ha. Who still had a great role in this movie, him and the character of Dr. Janosz. For a lead antagonist, Vigo just felt more humanized than ghostly for 80% of the film. To compare this movie to a similar pair of sequels of the same time period, I'd say these movies are like "Fright Night" & "Fright Night: Part II". Both films I love equally to The Ghostbusters pair of movies, but you felt the huge drop in suspense from 1 to 2, etc. @thegodfather ...Said it best above in his post, of why the drop in this movie being a better sequel. Which probably inevitably hurt this franchise to have a third film be put out that fans deserved. Actor Bill Murray certainly took decades to come back around to the franchise. Still, I'll always love this movie. It's one of my favorite sequels out of all sequels, in many cases they don't make sequels like this anymore in my opinion. A full A-list cast returning with that same comedy formula and chemistry that makes a solid story beginning to end. Not to mention a cast of actors who I've respected for all of their careers. And this was 30 years ago?? Damn I'm getting old, lol. Just some favorite moments below via gifs. Hope the opinion helps.

Some nightmare fuel right there. Too bad possessed Ray is defeated within seconds.
