To be fair though, I didn't remember that it was done with magic in the movie. I haven't seen it in a very long time.

I think when defining what makes a movie Sc-fi it gets a bit confusing at times. Post-apocalyptic movies are often consider part of the genre, but there is nothing overly science related about Escape from New York or The Road Warrior for example.

I'll go the lesser known, or disliked horror/sci fi movies since all of my mainstream faves were already said, ha. Each film I appreciate.
Not yet mentioned: 1990 "Baby Blood", ties with "The Dark Side of the Moon" 1991 "There's Nothing Out There" 1992 "Split Second" 1993 "Body Snatchers", ties with "Ticks" 1994 "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein", ties with "Death Machine" 1995 "Village of the Damned" 1996 "Hellraiser: Bloodline" 1997 "Cube", ties with "The Relic" 1998 "Deep Rising", ties with "Disturbing Behavior" 1999 "Deep Blue Sea"

How was Truman Show sci-fi? The camera tech? 1990 - Total Recall 1991 - Terminator 2: Judgment Day 1992 - Army of Darkness 1993 - Jurassic Park 1994 - Phantasm 3 (?) 1995 - 12 Monkeys 1996 - Mars Attacks! 1997 - Starship Troopers 1998 - The Faculty 1999 - The Matrix I guess the camera tech is the case. Plus IIRC, they were able to broadcast the footage around the world, which is quite vast. So I guess it qualifies? I’ll do you one: how was Army of Darkness sci-fi? I checked and from what I can tell The Truman Show is considered sci-fi not because of the tech, but because it is based on simulated reality and the effect it has on the main character.

Okay, that makes more sense.

Okay, that makes more sense. I also think the tech is far beyond anything we could build now. I mean it is a dome the size of an entire city that is able to achieve the effect of realistic sunlight, nighttime, storms etc. That is far more than just high tech cameras.
