What are some movies that have the main character feel more like a supporting character in their own movie?
For example:
Tim Burton's Batman films Superman III

Amadeus is a prime example. Most batman movies except for The Lego Batman Movie ironically. I somewhat disagree. It’s Salieri’s obsession with Mozart that is focus of the narrative.

Whichever way you slice it, SEVEN SAMURAI. It's accepted that Toshiro Mifune is the star, but he's really in a supporting role. In any case, the leader of the samurai is probably the pivotal role for many people, though I still see it as a story of the four farmers, particularly the conflict between the conservative faction of Manzo (who is supported by Yohei and most of the others) and the outnumbered liberal, more honorable faction of Mosuke (supported by the courageous Rikiki and few others).
I always found it interesting that the liberal faction held true to honor, while the conservatives were found to be guilty of killing samurai on the run (particularly Manzo and Yohei), and yet the samurai treat Manzo with the utmost respect.

Pirates of the Caribbean. Jack Sparrow was the supporting character in a film about Will and Elizabeth. Nobody was talking about Will or Elizabeth when the film came out.

Yep, that was gonna be my answer. But is he the main character in that movie, or did the sequels just make him the main character because of Peter Sellers' performance? I remember The Pink Panther being an ensemble movie.

Amadeus is a prime example. Most batman movies except for The Lego Batman Movie ironically. and Batman Begins. Bruce Wayne is the main focal point of the movie. It is the one live-action Batman movie that is entirely about Bruce Wayne's journey.

I remember The Pink Panther being an ensemble movie. The first one is more of an ensemble. The second one is where Clouseau became the true main character.
