My first MK game since Deception....overall enjoyable. Many familiar faces, a few really cool newer characters...gameplay was solid and it didn't take too long for me to get the hang of the basics. I still can't do several of the more advanced moves so i dont dare attempt online versus other players. Ill get stomped there. However...being able to defeat Kronika on normal difficulty was very exhilarating for me. Story was surprisingly fun. I wish it was a little bit longer and gave you a chance to play as everyone, but it was pretty cool. Haven't beat the Towers with many other characters yet so im not sure how each individual ending works out but ill prob casually do that. I find the character modifications and whatnot rather clunky to navigate. Fave new character....Kollector.

I haven't played MK since MK3 on the Sega Genesis.
However, my son just got a Nintendo Switch last Christmas and I thought about buying MK 11. Sounds solid.

The Mortal Kombat series peaked with MK3/UMK3 in the arcades (which is pretty much 1995-1996 (those were the days )) if you ask me (as that run button really pumped a lot of life into those games and made them much faster paced and a lot more fun because of it) as after that the series went downhill overall. although I would say Mortal Kombat (2011) is the closest of the modern era (say from basically the 3D games, which is MK4, to date) to the good ol' days. I have not played the very recent ones as I pretty much stopped after the MK game from 2011 (I think it's referred to as 'Mortal Kombat 9'). basically I can remember MK2/MK3/UMK3 well in the arcades as I was a teenager back then. I largely missed MK1 even though I do remember wanting it etc(like with Sega Genesis 'blood code' (i.e. abacabb) thing etc). but I clearly remember playing MK2/MK3/UMK3 as much as I could back in the day with my cousin in arcades and then trying to get a hold of the Genesis version etc when we could through renting it etc. those games were like crack for us ; lots of nostalgia. hell, I still enjoy firing up those games to this day on the MAME arcade emulator (using X-Arcade joystick etc) as I would have killed for that back in the day! ; I even fire up Mortal Kombat 1 on that MAME emulator to as while it's obviously more dated than MK2/MK3/UMK3, it's still kind of fun in a way to play against the CPU etc. I remember abusing the Kabal combo on MK3 were you do a roundhouse/tornado dash/ground saw/his usual combo(lk,lk,hp,hp,down+hp,jump kick, fireball) for I think it's 68% damage. it only works against the CPU though as it won't work on a real human player as it's blockable but the game registers it as a 68% damage combo when you pull it off against the CPU. basically it works best when the CPU starts getting aggressive and rushing you as they seem to be a sucker for that roundhouse and you just time a quick tornado dash right after. but I think I only learned of that at a later date as I wish I knew that back in the old days as I could have saved plenty of quarters ; I think the Sega Genesis version was so-so on that stuff due to slow down, but the arcade version does not have that problem.
also, on UMK3 that roundhouse thing was gone but there is another tactic to get the CPU to fall for your stuff but don't seem to be as reliable... like when they rush you, you just jump straight up and use I think it was the low-kick button which they tend to fall for it and it knocks em down and as soon as you land you can tornado dash and then do Kabal's usual combo. I think Scorpion has some sort of similar thing (like do same thing but as soon as your low-kick connects, teleport, then spear and combo etc(might have to play with it a bit to get timing down)) but it's been a while since I played it to figure out the details.
NOTE: I still got a little post card from 'Kay Bee Toy Stores' advertising Mortal Kombat 3 for SNES/Genesis and says "Mortal Friday October, 13 1995!" in red text etc and some other stuff.
p.s. for the record... the Mortal Kombat series is hands down my favorite fighting games, especially MK3/UMK3. I can't believe it's pushing 25 years already. makes me feel a bit old. but then again I am nearly 40, so I am starting to get a little age on myself
