In regards to Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford has been quoted as saying that HE IS Indiana Jones. That no one else should play him. That when he can no longer play him no one should. Basically he makes it sound like when he dies the character should die too.
Then he makes the joke that its a poor way for Chris Pine to find out. He probably meant Chris Pratt, the Chris who has been most associated with rumors of re-casting Indy.
A lot of fans agree with Mr. Ford. IMO, I disagree.
A) Indiana has already been played by two other actors. B) Indiana is a James Bond type of character. Not specific to an actor, but rather symbolic of a genre, in this case the "cliffhanger" series. C) Mr. Ford is out of his mind if he thinks the character is actually going to die with him, or even with Spielberg and Lucas! Disney owns Lucasfilm now and as soon as those guys are out of the picture (maybe even BEFORE they're out of the picture which is my bet!) they will start production on a new Indiana Jones with a young actor. Its not a matter of how but when. Sooner or later its going to happen!
Thoughts?

Actually I meant 4, then I thought my 4th was Harrison and I changed it to 3.

A 3B Disagree C As long as it's not Chris Pratt River Phoenix is playing him as a kid in the same movie. I don't see why that should count. He is still going to become the Harrison Ford character.

A 3B Disagree C As long as it's not Chris Pratt River Phoenix is playing him as a kid in the same movie. I don't see why that should count. Because... he's... a... separate... actor.
And had he lived he might have taken over the role at some point. Not impossible. If he had lived... So it is impossible... Now. ahem

River Phoenix is playing him as a kid in the same movie. I don't see why that should count. Because... he's... a... separate... actor. Yes, but Harrison Ford clearly doesn't mean it that way. He is only in the movie for 15 minutes and he is going to BECOME the Harrison Ford character in the same movie.

I 75% agree with Ford. I'd rather they just retire the character. Make their own action/adventure franchise already. They did it once before with Pirates of the Caribbean. However, yeah I think they are biding their time up until he dies.

I actually think that Chris Pratt should have played Mutt Williams in "THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL".

I actually think that Chris Pratt should have played Mutt Williams in " THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL". Mutt is an annoying shitty character. No one should play him and he should never be heard from again.

I still think there is an amazing amount of room to reboot the Young Indiana Jones series. There is so much material that wasn't picked up on in the original series during his days after World War I. His college years would be a start. Or just redo the whole series. I agree that there shouldn't be a reboot or continuation of "adult" Indiana Jones though.

I don't know how I feel about this. Maybe it's more the curmudgeon than Indy fan in me that wants to agree with Ford. Though it's probably more the Indy fan than pure film fan that wants to see more Indy adventures, if that makes any sense. Meaning it's only nostalgia that has me considering more Indy adventures, when in truth whatever film they inevitably come up with can only disappoint a hardcore Indy fan such as myself.
You think you want a thing, but then you realize that thing doesn't exist anymore. It's a formula that can't be recreated with new ingredients; it will always seem like a poor facsimile of the original, because that's exactly what it is. And it will leave you with an empty feeling at the end. Even if you get the same actor or creative team, a film or group of films belongs to a certain time in cinema. The culture and your perspective have evolved and there's no going back. Life doesn't work that way. See: the latest Star Wars trilogy, Die Hard 57, Terminator million, Prometheus, Jason Bourne, Crystal Friggin' Skull, etc, etc.
So in the end I agree with Ford, just retire the character. (They won't.)

I agree with Ford, and I appreciate the ballsiness in which he's asserted his point. Mostly because his character traits on paper are not hard to duplicate with a NEW character. Hell, call him Minnesota Johnson for all I care. Maybe they were roommates in archaeology school. They could be virtually the same guy...kind of like Chris Pratt was in "Jurassic World" and shit, even Brendan Fraser in "The Mummy."
New. I want something new.
They tried this with "Solo" (which I really liked, and liked Alden Echright's (sp?) performance). People are touchy and sentimental with these characters. I'd have preferred Indy's story to have ended with Ford and Connery riding off into the sunset in "The Last Crusade." As long as Ford is back though, I'll go watch...even if they nuke another fridge. If there is no Ford, there is no Dr. Jones.
There was an interesting show for a while on TNT (or TBS?) called "The Librarian." The character, much like Indy, was a swashbuckling yet intellectual guy, who could get the girl, and put the thing in the museum. Jones is an archetype of a character. You could write hundreds of different versions of this character. WHY on earth does he have to be called Indiana Jones??? Let it be Harrison Ford's.
Minnesota Smith S. Carolina Johnson (for the inevitable gender swap) Massachussetts Rex Chicago O'Hare (any frequent flyers around here?) Wyoming McGillicuddy
Hell, I'd even settle for something as lazy as Indiana Jackson!
This is like re-casting "The Dude" from "The Big Lebowski." Why? It's such an iconic performance that virtually no-one will live up to, and fans will reject. This same thing is happening with the new "Child's Play" movie, which is interesting to watch unfold, as Mark Hammill is a damn fine voice actor, and is about the best choice they could have made...if they absolutely had to reboot it.
::Hurumph:: : Doesn't anyone else want something new? Are "universes" and nostalgia so much more financially viable than originality, that we can't just get a new character?
With comics, I kind of get it. James Bond is sort of an anomaly, though they sort of addressed it in "Skyfall" with the plotline regarding the 007 moniker. Enough for me anyway.
With Indiana Jones, I just don't get it. There's no reason. Didn't mean to rant this long, but I just don't get it. I'm old enough to remember seeing some of these things being remade now when they were theatrically released. It's like a "Twilight Zone" episode. Oh wait, they're remaking that too. I can smell your cigarette, Mr. Serling.
