I've hated most of the X-Men films and I still bought tickets to see how it goes out. I expect it to be terrible so I really have nothing to lose. Thank God (Disney) the franchise is being put down.

The series is such a mixed bag. Some are pretty good, like Days of Future Past, only to follow up with crappy Apocalypse.

Jeremy Jahns (He is a Movie Reviewer on YOUTUBE for anybody here who doesn't know) said that it is the WORST "X-MEN" Movie.

Same terrible writing and unlikeable characters. I probably enjoyed First Class the most of any X-Men film (with the exception of Logan which is really a stand alone, 'what if' type story, and Deadpool which is out and out farce), and even then First Class isn't among my personal favorite films. It's been a while since I saw DOFP (only saw it in the theater), but one of the things that stuck out to me was all the clunky exposition from everyone that never made any sense. There's a scene just like that in another thread somebody posted about Dark Phoenix. The characters' motivations are almost always nonsensical in these films and they seem to change from scene to scene. You don't understand why they would behave or think this way given what you've already seen within this particular film. The stories to these films never make any sense at all. And here I am going to see this garbage flick. With any luck, Jean goes berserk and incinerates the team, the planet and the entire Fox X-Men Universe in the final scene and forms a flaming cosmic middle finger that takes up the entire screen. I'd probably give that a standing ovation.

I stopped watching after The Last Stand and basically lost interest in the franchise.
This franchise won't disappear though despite the critical reaction to this new film. We'll get more of these films whether we want them or not. We're guaranteed to get more if they make the slightest bit of money whether a flop or success anyway.

There's little doubt in my mind that it's getting bad reviews, I admit it doesn't look like anything special, but I've just about had it with this bizarre faction of fans and try to pretend this entire series was panned. Most of the series is rated fresh: X1, X2, First Class, Days of Future Past, The Wolverine, and Logan are all well received. Somewhere around the release of DOFP, which funny enough is one of the highest rated ones, this group of fans started rolling their eyes at this series as if it was bad all along. Even before we knew Apocalypse was bad, people dismissed it fresh off the heels of one of the highest rated in the series. It became cool and fashionable to hate these movies. Fact is, most of them have good reviews.

Same here. That’s when the franchise started to get back on track. Well for one movie at least. From what I've seen of Apocalypse, it's not very good. Outside of McAvoy and Fassbender, the new cast was never very well received.

This is probably an attempt to discredit the last X-Men movie so that when MCU finally makes their 1st X-Men movie, they can say how great it is compared to the last X-Men movie.

Egh, I liked Evan Peters’ quicksilver better than the MCU one. Agreed. MCU Quicksilver is so lame that he's the only speedster who isn't can't pick a bullet out of the air and has to use his back as a shield against bullets. For a speedster, everything moves in slow motion. What kind of lame speedster can't pick a slow-moving bullet out of the air?

Fact is, most of them have good reviews. I never try to argue the public sentiment, only my personal opinion. X2 for example is highly regarded whereas I don't think it's anything special. One of the better X-films for sure, but I rewatched it within the last few years and couldn't remember why I thought it was as great as I did. I'm fully aware most people enjoyed DOFP because it's consistently mentioned as one of the better ones (including in this thread), but it didn't work for me at all. I enjoyed First Class, Logan and Deadpool. The Wolverine was forgettable but not terrible. The issue with the X-films is that for every decent entry into the catalog, there are two or three truly awful films. That explains why over time, the general audience may have turned on the franchise as a whole as you're suggesting here. I don't have many kind words for the franchise myself, but I'm not a hater. Shit man, I'm going to see Dark Phoenix this Friday. I want these movies to be good. It's incredibly rare that they accomplish what I want them too, though.
