Hi, Petrolino.
Yes, there are two Larry Peerce films that I love and which I also think are exceptional.
First and foremost, One Potato, Two Potato (1964). It's one of the most powerful, haunting, and beautiful films about racism I've ever seen, with a truly remarkable performance by Barbara Barrie (she should at least have received an Oscar nomination for that; shame on them). Oh, what a beauty that film is.
I also really admire The Incident (1967), a gritty, powerful story of young ruffians causing trouble for a black couple one night on a New York subway, with terrific performances by Martin Sheen, Beau Bridges, Brock Peters, and Ruby Dee.
Peerce was clearly a director who was very good with actors. Unfortunately, he never had the best options in terms of material in his career and ended up doing a lot mediocre films, and then quite a bit of television. I always thought he was better than that and regretted that we didn't have a chance to see him realize his full potential.

Hi spiderwort. Did you know Barbara Barrie won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival for 'One Potato, Two Potato' (1964)? I didn't. I'd like to see this movie. She came back to theatre recently for the work of playwright Joshua Harmon who's been making waves across the theatre world.
I know 'The Incident' because of our resident Martin Sheen fan, Linda(?).

No, I didn't know that Barrie won the Cannes Award, but I'm not surprised. She also deserved an Oscar - or at least a nomination. And I'd love to see her on stage. Something I never thought of her doing.
Anyway, if you haven't seen One Potato, Two Potato, I urge you to do so. You will not be disappointed. It's really special.

I've only seen two of his films; Two-Minute Warning, which I enjoyed, and a really obscure one called The Sporting Club (1971). I saw The Sporting Club only once on VHS many years ago, and later learned it was heavily edited. The original version reportedly contains profanity, graphic violence, and sex. I'd like to see the uncut version some day, and I'm hoping it will get a blu-ray release someday soon. Have you seen The Sporting Club petrolino? In looking at Peerce's filmography, I noticed he directed several episodes of the 1960s Batman TV show.

YES to
THE INCIDENT- tense urban drama with VG cast
GOODBYE COLUMBUS - a poor man's GRADUATE maybe, but still a pleasant view, and probably Richard Benjamin's keeper.
Not really
A SEPARATE PEACE - student drama
NO
ASH WEDNESDAY - dreary plastic surgery drama with Liz indulged
TWO MINUTE WARNING - ropey disaster flic about sniper at stadium
THE BELL JAR - awful adaptation of one of my favourite novels starring Peerce's then wife Marilyn Hassett - let's hope the new one due soon with Dakota Fanning and directed by Kirsten Dunst is better (it wouldn't have to try hard)

Very disappointed by. Separate peace and Bell jar. Widely read and admired, these novels had great film potential and built in audience. Not sure what went wrong.
Larry Peerce is the son of one of my favorite Opera figures, The great Tenor Jan Peerce. In his 70’s he could still fill a concert hall with his beautiful tenor. He had a lovely cameo in Goodby Columbus playing one of two brothers who spend the wedding arguing about the carpeting. They can be seen pacing it off as the reception devolves in to a mess.

The Big T.N.T. Show 1966, I've heard about it, but never seen it in a complete version, said to have been the great divider of old Rock n Roll and what was coming.
Two-Minute Warning 1976, great cast in a typical nearly disaster movie, everything from Charlton Heston to Walter Pidgeon... (I didn't dislike it)
Hard to Hold 1984, a former GF said Rick Springfield had a nice butt, and that is more or less what I remember about that movie.
