There's always a chance u get stuck next to someone If the theatre's empty you can probably move to a different seat, assigned or otherwise. If the theatre's full you'd be stuck next to people regardless. I don't know about all theaters, but I can say that Alamo Drafthouse and Studio Movie Grill are sticklers about the assigned seats. They may let you move depending on the circumstances, but otherwise you better be in the seat on your ticket. Checking the tickets is the first thing they do when they come to take your food order.

Guess I was referring to more conventional/non-food service theatres. Assigned seating has been pretty common place here (Australia) for quite a few years and I've never once seen theatre staff check patron's seats once they're in the cinema. We do have smaller more "luxury" theatres within the chain complexes (labelled Gold Class) where food is served. I imagine here they may require you to stay in your assigned seat so they know where to bring your food/drinks, but the few times I've tried those they've been full anyway.

Dine-in movie theaters are nice, but holy smokes are they expensive. Maybe you should try reserving a seat before they sell out. lol

True story: I was in the theater waiting for Infinity War to start. It was me my friend and just three other people. One guy was sitting by himself in the middle of the theater, no one near him. A guy then comes in, walks up to him and says "I think you're in my seat." And he wasn't joking. He actually made the guy move. I still laugh about it. It was so god damn ridiculous. Maybe he wanted that seat. Maybe that's why he picked it. And when he got there, an idiot was sitting in it. Did the other guy not pick a seat when he bought his ticket? Best believe you're moving if you're in my seat. I don't care if we're the only two there. The person who gets there first deserves the seat. This reminds me of when I go to a sub shop and I have to wait while they prepare ten subs for uber eats drivers so that they can deliver food to lazy jerks that aren't even there. I AM HERE! THEY ARE NOT! GIVE ACKBAR THE SUBMARINE SANDWHICH!!!!!&!!!

Exactly. I don't have a deal in place with any theater chain to autograph its seats.
