If only the rest of the movie could have been as good as this scene.

I was born in the Dahk. Molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man. By then it was nothing to me but BLINDING!!

Your guilt has been determined, this is merely a sentencing hearing. Now, what will it be? Death or exile?

I think Nolan was half assing it to finish the trilogy. WB was demanding he make another Batman after the successful TDK (which he was all in).
But he wasn't ready. He wanted to make other projects first. So he just quickly rushed it.
I believe if you have him one more rewrite and an extra year to develop, it would have been a masterpiece. You see glimpses like this scene.

This scene worked big time for me. It reminded me of the "Twilight Zone" in the "Obsolete Man" episode with Burgess Meredith.

I find it so odd how many people on this board hate this movie.
Like it has to be the only site on the planet where liking it puts me in the minority.

The people who dislike it are just more vocal about it. But I've seen it elsewhere too. TDKR has a cult of people who hate it.

I saw TDKR opening night as part of a marathon of the whole Nolan trilogy . In that setting, the callbacks to Batman Begins really hit home. I love the movie and own the entire trilogy on DVD.
