A second Brazilian goal before the interval would do me very nicely here. But shots on target are at a premium so far.

Aguero off the bar!

Another Messi free-kick from wide outside the area. He drives a poor one low but the parry sees him collect the ball, turn one or two defenders, and screw a shot toward goal. He made some amends with that but the initial kick was dismal.

Now Acuna and Alves square up after some elbowing. Acuna mouths off to the ref and gets a card for his troubles.

The ref blows up for the half. Alves got a card for the challenge on Acuna after all. But Alves and Jesus won't let the officials leave the field without having a moan at them. Eventually the players trudge away to make way for Messi who puts in his tuppence worth. No real controversy here so I can't see what they're all moaning about, although Jesus did suffer a nasty wound to his leg after that earlier ugly lunge. One-nothing Brazil. And I'm tired.

I missed it but a replay starts in 40 minutes.

It finished 2-0 Brazil. Not sure who potted the second but that's Argentina out.

Messi misses out again! He's never won anything with Argentina, as far as I know. Amazing when you think of the talent that country has had over the last 16 years or so. He looks doomed to retire with nil international medals.

Well, exceptionally there will be another Copa America next year, as the competition shifts to even-numbered years that are not World Cup years (so from now on it will coincide with the Euros - not sure that's a good idea). Messi might feel tempted to try for an international trophy one more time, especially since the tournament will be played at home - Argentina is co-hosting with Colombia.

Peru two goals up in their semi-final against two-time defending champions Chile with 25 minutes to go.

3-0 for Peru final result. Peru books passage for their first Copa America final since 1975.
Lots of empty seats at the stadium again, which is a disgrace for a semi-final of a pretty important tournament. The organisers really screwed up the pricing.

That is insane! The two countries are over 4000 miles apart. That's akin to Britain co-hosting with Afghanistan

It's Argentina vs Chile in the bronze medal match. Argentina ahead by two goals to nil but just lost their captain (a certain Messi) to a red card just before the break. Both teams will play with ten men in the second half.

It's turned into a farce, Messi and a Chilean have just been red carded. Mesi started it, both teams went mental.
Doesn't matter, Argentina leads 2 - 0.

A bit unnecessary from the ref there?

Some fancy ball handling by Di Maria, flicked the ball to himself around a Chilean, got to the ball first, brought it swiftly downfield and made a great pass to Aguero for the shot.

A bit unnecessary from the ref there? Now that I have seen it, I agree. The Chilean player may have deserved the red card, but Messi didn't. I was just reading that this is only the second time in his entire career that Messi got a red card (first time was during a friendly against Hungary 14 years ago). That is pretty impressive!

When the ref came diving in I straight away thought, well a bit eager but Medel was spoiling for a punch-up so he's gonna get the card. Hard to see what Messi did wrong (apart from the little shove in the back as the ball goes out of play but how many times does that go unpunished in games?) These two have got previous when Medel walloped Messi in the stomach four or five years ago.
