Sorry, no YewTewb video this time. The Hideous Trap of ExistenceThoughts on this are welcome. Intelligent thoughts are preferable, but even Goz-type thoughts might provide some amusement. A few on the Internet have called me a nihilist but I don't think I am. It isn't existence that I hate. It's just a substandard existence. You might even call it a fallen existence. I call it that. Some of you might remember a thread I did a few years ago about the movie "Zardoz" and the godlike beings in that story who seemed to have become ensnared in the existence trap. They were bored, and they didn't want to live anymore, but they couldn't die. Hopefully there are others here besides Catman and me who have seen this film. And remember in Star Trek when Corchrane tells Kirk that immortality consists mostly of boredom? Not a pleasant thought. Often I find mortal life boring enough.

I haven't seen "Zardoz", but it is by the same guy that did "Deliverance" (John Boorman). I think it pretty much ruined his career.

"Exorcist II: The Heretic" was the other. I haven't seen it yet but he seems to have partially redeemed himself with a film called "The Emerald Forest."

Thanks for the heads up! I recommend Prozac. Is Prozac still allowed? I thought it was pulled off the market because too many people were dying as a result of it. In any case, I don't take any of those drugs. You should know that about me by now. They don't solve the problem. They merely cover it up.

Prozac is an anti-depressant, is it not? Goz, if you're going to play the "dumb" card on me, I've got better things to do. It's wrong to waste someone's time like that.

In your OP you say you are not a nihilist, so if your feelings you make clear in that post are not an intellectual position, you are saying things that are clearly evidence of a depressive disorder. I have felt this about you for a long time, and you need medical help IMHO.

It usually lasted for about a day and a half. What I talk about in the OP is something different. It's something spiritual, not physical.

I think you are delusional sometimes butt I would not wish depression on anyone. I went to a funeral yesterday of a young man who hung himself leaving a young wife and two children under 3. Please for give my intrusion. It was kindly meant.

His mother is a friend of mine and old neighbour and her husband passed away from a brain tumour only a few years ago. Life is NOT fair.

I hated Zardoz. It's the worst kind of pseudo-intellectual post-2001 shite that almost killed science-fiction cinema, and makes Logan's Run look hip. Seriously, how anyone can watch this and take it seriously.... Sean Connery in his red briefs, a flying stone head ranting about dicks, the people twiddling their fingers going mmmmmmmm at the ones who don't toe the line....

Conflating the two is rather insulting to those who do/have suffered from depression (which I have not).
