Youtube is becoming more and more commercialized to appease advertisers. That is why so many mid to small youtubers' vids no longer end up at the top as a recommended on updated algorithms. Or more niche and varied content. One has to search for them. These "creators" are now no longer part of the actual community. Youtube are trying to become another streaming service bringing in bigger production studios or Youtube creators that can afford an up tempo production.
Small timers can't keep up and face burnouts. Not to mention Youtube's algorithm changes in the past few years that screwed everyone's view numbers but also, their vids being recommended, and importantly ad revenues. Or having a minimum of 1,000 subscribers or a certain amount hours viewed to qualify to have Superchats enabled so that viewers can donate as an example. Some have adapted by making longer vids for that 10 minute minimum, using a different thumbnail to trick the algorithms, and adding other contribution revenue sources such as patreon.
Another thing that is going on is Youtube's zeal to demonetized just about anything that the algorithms feel goes against TOS guidelines. This is very problematic because the programming cannot truly differentiate was is actual versus perceived vs false. An egregious example, are recent uploaded videos that show the the massive protests in Hong Kong that uploaders claim are being striked for violence as the given reason and having their vids practically hidden to the general mass where one has search for it or the channel. I don't know if its because Alphabet is trying to appease China to get Google service back into that country or not. Another example is using the word gun in the title video and that get demonetized or the entire channel gets deleted for no good apparent reason.
It really has gone to shit since ads started to appear into videos but I understand Alphabet was losing tons of money on Youtube for years and needed to generate a revenue but they've gone too far changing their models that screws nearly everyone. Youtube execs have been pretty quiet and Casey Neistat's interview of Youtube President Casey Neistat last year after the pedo videos fiasco where a lot of creator channels and their vids where being demonetized or deleted in no relation to pedophilia but only because they had children in it. Casey's interview was pandering bullshit that didn't hit the president to answer with all the idiotic changes that were hurting the youtube community at large.
