Anyone else think this will be a great series? Feels like its taking forever to premiere. I hope I won't be disappointed. The Handmaid's Tale

Sounds like Sharia law. There is a movie from the 90's as well.

Read the book and liked it, but never saw the 90's movie. Might be interesting to see. Sadly I don't have Hulu.

I started reading the book a long time ago but didn't finish it (I think I was busy at the time). It's probably still about the house somewhere. It looks more interesting than the newer series coming out. I'll probably get around to seeing it eventually.

At first, I wasn't sure I would like it but by the end of the first episode, I was hooked. Brilliant performances by Elizabeth Moss as Offred, Alexis Bledel as Ofglen, Yvonne Strahovski as Serena Joy & Samira Wiley as Moira. It's brutal, cruel, disturbing and highly emotional. Truly excellent show. Can't wait to see season 2. The 1st season has earned a lot of Emmy nominations.

Whew. The last episode was epic. Cliffhanger too! For those of you who have shied away because some have called it too feminist well you are missing out on a clever, emotional series. The acting and stark cinematography are incredible. This is a human story and not gender specific. If you are able to see through the shallow reviews ( I did) and watch this then you will be rewarded.

I started watching this last week. It’s...interesting. I think the largest draw for me was the fact that Yvonne Strahovski was in it (I last watched her in The Astronaut Wives Club, and before that 24: Live Another Day, and before that I first saw her in the TV series Chuck). I also don’t mind Elizabeth Moss, having watched her for seven seasons of Mad Men, and before that as the President’s daughter in The West Wing (I couldn’t get into Top of the Lake). While I have seen Alexis Bledel in some movies, I never watched Gilmore Girls, so this is the first show I’ve watched that she’s been in. Good to see Joseph Fiennes being in something that seems like it he’ll get to continue on with, after him only getting single seasons of Camelot, Flashforward and AHS.
I do enjoy Moss’s voice-over and there’s a suitably creepy vibe/feeling to the show which makes it unsettling. There are a few characters that I’m not too fond of, but I’ll stick with the show as long as the ‘good’ parts outweigh the parts I don’t like.

I hope we get more moments like we had with Luke.

I really enjoyed it. The whole thing with the eyes and black vans seemed so familiar to me, I'm not sure if I've read the book or not, if I have it was a looong time ago. I've just downloaded it to read again. I wish we would have learned a bit more about the outside world and their reaction to Gilead, hopefully there are more details in the novel.
It was a pleasant surprise to see Samira Wiley in this, I thought I'd seen the last of her.

I watched episode 3 of the show last night and Yvonne Strahovski really impressed me when her character threw Offred to the floor and then dove to the floor herself to shout in Offred’s face, “Do you understand me?!”. It was quite a shock – and very effective. I’ve only seen her play ‘good guys’ previously, and none of them have ever been like this at all, but I thought she was pretty intimidating in that moment.

Four seasons of this might be too many. The show has always been uncomfortable to watch, but this season is rough. It's good, but...it's getting to be a lot. Mckenna Grace is of the greatest child actors working right now and I'm glad she was cast in this. So grown up though! Last time I saw her in something, she was like 10 lol. I really liked Alma and will miss her.

Did anyone notice Elisabeth Moss directed an episode?

Four seasons of this might be too many. The show has always been uncomfortable to watch, but this season is rough. It's good, but...it's getting to be a lot. In one of the early episodes season 4, the women capture a Gilead man who was trespassing on the property of the farm where they have been sheltering in secret. The young mistress of the farm identifies him as one of the men who have been raping her with her husband's consent. What do folks here think about June's decision on how to handle the captive?

I thought it made sense. Didn’t necessarily like it, but I get it.

The last episode genuinely shocked me. I honestly never thought she’d get out of Gilead until the end, and I was sure she’d have Hannah with her.
Biggest curveball I’ve seen in television as of late.
