The last line of JJ Cale's "Cocaine" wasn't central to listeners back in the 70s, when EC popularized it.
Don't forget this fact, You can't get it back, cocaine

"Don't Fear the Reaper" is supposed to not be about suicide even though it seriously sounds like it's about suicide.

Short People by Randy Newman.
The song is supposed to be about mocking bigotry and prejudice, but many took the lyrics at face value thinking it was attacking little people, so it became very controversial. It's been said that Newman still receives hate mail for it.

"Every Breath You Take" by The Police
That's the first one I thought of.
Listening to the music, it's a nice, slow, romantic song.
Listening to the lyrics...uhhh..............maybe not.

American politicians seem to misunderstand Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen.

"Robert Deniro's Waiting" -- about rape. "The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades" -- about nuclear holocaust. "For What It's Worth" -- inspired by Sunset Strip riots, not the Viet Nam war. "Alison" is not about murdering an ex and "Turning Japanese" is not about masturbation, according to the respective writers.

A lot of Meatloaf songs are said to be about Ten minutes.
They're Not.
They just bloody seem that long.
