I'm 33 years old and I've lived a lot of life for someone my age.
I have traveled, I have loved, I have been married, had a kid, had spiritual awakening, went through the elementary, junior high, high school, college experiences.
In the old days, people expected to die in their 40s -60s. I think in reality, that's about right. We have been spoiled with modern medicine, technology, etc.
There is a reason people aren't built to live to be 100 years old. Now we battle nursing homes, senile, dementia, painful existence.
I would like to make it to 60, but if I were to die in an accident or cancer, or whatever, I'd be okay with it.

I'm 33 as well. I don't know if I want to live well into my 80s or 90s if it means suffering dementia or other debilitating conditions. I've seen how it affected my grandparents, for instance, and I don't know if people who live that long are necessarily happy.
But on the other hand, I'd feel cheated if I didn't get to see my children grow up and be there for them. It's a worry of mine because i've known some other women not too much older than me who died suddenly from cancer and accidents, and left children behind. In the past, I may have had less regard for my own life, but now I have to be here to take care of my kids.
I even have some anxiety about it. I think, if I died suddenly today, my baby wouldn't have any memories of me. My 4-year-old would have some memories.
But even more than my own life, I have severe fears about losing my children. It's painful to even consider it and I have to push the thoughts away.

Yeah, that's one thing I do not want is to have my heart outlast my mind as I would rather die slightly younger (say go out at 60 something or maybe 70 something) with my mind than make it to say 100 or so with dementia etc. because being a little forgetful appears to be a natural thing for those in their 60's etc, but after a certain point, your mind is pretty much shot and that would suck. although dying in ones 40's is definitely too young as I don't even think more legitimate old starts til at least 60+ as I tend to see ones 50's as the early stages of getting old and ones 40's are neither young or old and 30's and younger is basically young(30's) to spring chicken young(20's and younger). but with that said... I suspect in the old days when things were harder, people matured much faster etc as they were sort of forced to. so it's like they sort of lived more and probably became wiser faster because they struggled more etc. because nowadays many, if not most, 20 somethings are quite immature (i.e. many are like teenagers) but back in the old days when things were hard I suspect a 25 year old would be more mature and wiser beyond his years compared to today's 25 year olds as I suspect they has a appreciate for more simple things etc. just some random thoughts hermionegrangerYeah, it appears that's a typical reaction from all decent moms. they worry about their kids and that's just the way it is. like before they have kids... it appears things are more about self, but once a female has kids, it's pretty much mostly about the kids. but in a way it almost has to be because if a mother continues to be about self, the kids will probably pay the price for it. with that said... while I know you can't completely turn off the worrying about your kids(as this seems to be more of a female parent than male parent thing from what I can tell), especially in today's immoral world etc, we got to put our trust in God and pray they don't get into too much trouble as it's pretty much guaranteed kids will make mistakes, like everyone else, but we just hope those mistakes are nothing too extreme

I'm 37 and don't necessarily want to clock out just yet. I still haven't crossed everything off of my bucket list.
Life expectancy being as high as it is right now can be a good thing. People in their 60s and 70s aren't acting severely old like they used to 50 years ago. My parents are Baby Boomers. They're still up and able to move around without assistance. Their memories are still intact as far as I know.
If I'm ever a vegetable in a wheelchair and drooling on myself constantly, then yeah, I think it's time to call Dr. Jack Kevorkian. I wouldn't want to spend my retirement years staring at television unable to feed myself.

About four months ago I lost my niece. She was 22 years old and had recently had a baby. Freak car accident. Knocked the life right out of her.
For a while I felt badly for her, but now I envy her for all she was spared.

I hope that at the time of my death that I find some peace in/with it. That said I don't want it to come as of now.

Well I have always planned to die before I hit 40 so I still have a couple of years left but I have no problem if it ended sooner than that.

That requires quite a bit of explanation, but suffice it to say that bad things are coming. I don't want to be here anymore. I've had enough of it, but still have a long way to go.

Yes, some of the afflictions that come with aging can be more concerning than death itself. I'm a little older than you and I'm not ready to go yet, but don't feel I need to make it to 100 or anything.

A person can live too long. I've seen it happen with elderly family members.
That said, I would like to make it to a decent age. I'm 34 now (so not particularly young), but then again my parents are still going strong in their 70s.
