No. Image and sound alone can be just as expressive as speech, and film is primarily a visual medium.
Metropolis for example, is a great experience with great storytelling and amazing visuals. The constraints of telling a story without dialogue forced filmmakers to tell stories in visual, abstract ways.
However I have a feeling I'm replying to a troll post, as I've seen this countless times on IMDb, the bi-weekly "why do people enjoy silent/old films" etc.

As opposed to a simple question? My goodness. No need to get irate. Anyway, how it could it possibly be weirder than anything else that people enjoy silent films?

Nope. I don't go out of my way usually to see one but it's on TCM or something, I check them out. Just to satisfy my curiosity.

Zasu Pitts was considered one of the great actresses of the silent era.
Without changing her acting style she became one if the great comediannes of the early talkies and the inspiration for the Olive Oyl character in the early Popeye cartoons.

If I ever became a director (not likely to happen), I'd like to direct a new silent film loosely inspired by those old RPG video games featuring amazing hair....

I don't think it's 'weird' but at the same time i would assume those people are probably in the minority as while i could see how some people enjoy them on some level, especially just to see how far we have come since etc(like takes you to a totally different time), they can't touch modern movies in all around enjoyment as if someone thinks some of those can challenge some of the best fairly modern movies then it's pretty safe to say we are not on the same page when it comes to silent movies, at all. personally i would largely see silent movies as more of a curiosity then any serious entertainment and like i always say a persons overall enjoyment of a movie is what ultimately makes or breaks a movie in the long term. so the more i enjoy a movie the higher the score and the less i enjoy it the lower the score as rating any other way makes no sense since movies are ultimately about how much one enjoys watching them.
but there is other arguments one could say like mentioned above how it's primarily a visual medium and things can be said without stuff being said etc.
just some thoughts

No. I haven't exposed myself to many but I'm open to the silent film era.
I do enjoy many types of music without lyrics. Not sure if that's comparable but I feel like I'm in the minority when I say I listen to classical music occasionally.

Popular music instrumentals also used to be common for many years (hell, cornet recordings of popular songs were among the top selling records at the turn of the 20th century), but vanished in the early 1960s. I'm probably the only one who wants it to make a comeback.

It's sad that many people don't. There are people who find it weird when other people enjoy a movie - any movie (silent or talkie, old or new) - for any reason that goes beyond silly little entertainment. We shouldn't judge them too hard. Their attitude's more representative of the times in which we live than of the quality of the great silent cinema.
On the other hand, It's weird when movies mean the world to someone. It's a weird way of life when one lives and breathes cinema. Watching movies on a daily basis is a weird way of spending this earthly existence. But for some people - it's the right way, the only way.
Dum vivimus vivamus. I guess we should just live and let live.
