I know this sounds like a very pedestrian question, but I'm genuinely curious. I'm not much of a cinema goer myself. My last cinema trip was back in February 2018 when I went to see Black Panther. I mostly watch movies on DVD or online instead.
Anyone else here an infrequent cinema goer? Or are you one of those people who goes multiple times a year?

Last film Catman went to see in a theater was The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. No plans to go again.

I go quite often, so I would have to say on average once a fortnight.

Once or twice every two months. May was unusually busy for me; I saw 3 films that month.

I've always called it a movie theater. I've noticed that term used a lot here and on other forums. And I like it too. But we don't really use it where I'm from. Generally we say either the cinema or "the pictures".

I've always called it a movie theater. I just say going to the movies. I then decide which theater complex and what cinema the film will be in for presentation quality.

Really looking forward to seeing Aladdin at some point. The reviews have been more positive than I'd expected, I'm a huge fan of the 1992 animated version and I love Will Smith. John Wick 3 also looks good, though unlike a lot of people I favoured the simplicity of the original over the more elaborate second instalment. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. As for your third movie - I've yet to see a Godzilla movie I liked.

I dug all 3 Wick films, great world building outside of superhero movies and interesting characters and great action;the fights in this are brutal as hell. I've like some Godzilla films but I'm not a yuge fan. I liked the 2014 movie but this was more entertaining as summer spectacle. I still have a soft spot for the Emmerich film even most...do not.

The following info should pretty much sum up how many times I have been to the theaters for me (it's possible I am missing some others but it can't be much beyond what's listed below which would apply to the 1990's or so decades as the 2010's decade should be exactly correct as I am confident I am not missing anything on the 2010's decade)...
2010's...
-True Grit (2010) (in late Dec 2010) -Drive (2011) (on opening day (Sep 16th 2011) at the first showing basically) -In Time (2011) (on opening day (Oct 28th 2011) at the first showing basically)
2000's...
-Terminator 3 (2003) -Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (2003) -Wild Hogs (2007)
1990's...
-Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) -Mortal Kombat (1995) (I viewed this opening day on Aug 18th 1995 with my cousin as we really liked the video games back in those days, especially MK3/UMK3 etc) -Twister (1996) (I think I viewed this in the theaters) -The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) -Armageddon (1998)
NOTE: I might be forgetting a bit more in the 1990's though but I suspect if there is, I am not missing much. but basically, it should be pretty safe for me to say the 1990's is when I most visited the theaters.
off the top of my head... I want to say one of the earliest movies (if not THE earliest) I have seen in the theaters is... Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989). so I am pretty much a 1990's to date kind of person since prior to the 1990's I was pretty much in the single digits age wise.
with all of that said... I watch a high percentage of what I see at home.

All the cinema where I live were closed. Used to be 3 active movie theatres, with a live projectionist who was my friend. He worked it for 18 years before being replaced by technology. When he started, he used to splice footage. Now, we just have one horrible, soulless multiplex designed to sell snacks and beverages. The staff even turn the lights on before the credits have barely rolled and at the side seating you can't see nothing. It's like a Jake Gyllenhaal play advertised at £30 because you're seated outside, whereas front and centre actually costs closer to £230. So I don't go anymore, unless going out of town.
The wonders of unechecked capitalism upon culture and heritage ... ##

1960s and 70s - every week, usually double feature.
2000 - 2017, about 2 or 3 times a year 2018 - now, 12-15 times a year because my cinema shows classics.

Very little these days. Mainly because I don't like Hollywood's current output overall.

. Not often.....unless it's nearly empty. I get the red mist when moronic oxygen thieves chat, rustle , fuck about with their phones etc. I waited outside a cinema once for some twat and his twat cronies who ruined the night for me and mine and demanded the money off them I'd wasted. They coughed up as I think they could see the murder in my eyes. Another time I politely asked some shemale if she could stop talking for bit during a Michael Caine flick....and she made a foul breaking wind noise and gave me the finger. I'd never been struck speechless before that moment. What can you say to that.?!?! Someone once said that a video/DVD is just a souvenir of the cinema experience.....but nowadays...with the huge tellys (I've got one) and headphones .....I much prefer a glass of wine and watching a movie in my flat . There is a retro 50's style cinema in my next town where there is comfy sofas, you can have a beer or wine and nuts are served in a bowl.....not in a bloody bag....and hot dogs are brought to you....it's delightful and the clientele is allowed selectively and discerningly........ But generally I don't go to the flicks a lot. My middle daughter worked at a local cinema for a while before going to uni.....and said She took great delight in throwing out the morons. Payback she said.
