I have noticed this before, but never thought about it much. There is no way a trained police officer would hold his gun this way! I don't know if this is Lincoln's creation or the directors' instructions but it is certainly not accurate. Probably just to try to "look cool"... kind of like how gangsters started holding their guns sideways. At close range, you will probably still hit your target

At close range, you will probably still hit your target If you could even see the target--he's holding the gun so that it obstructs his view of anything at which he's pointing. This has to be a Lincoln affectation; they've had maybe dozens of directors over the run of the series and this has appeared under a variety of them.

It DOES kinda give a "Dirty Harry" effect, ...still highly inaccurate and in opposition into cops are trained to shoot.
