directed by someone else.
For example, a lot of people seem to think that Michael Bay directed Con Air (1997).

Steven Spielberg for Poltergeist (though some say this is really true). Yeah, that's a complicated one.

Someone asked John Ford what he said when people thanked him for Red River. Ford said, "Thank you."

I always thought John Hughes directed Pretty in Pink. He did write it, but someone else directed it.

I always thought John Hughes directed Pretty in Pink. He did write it, but someone else directed it. And its companion piece Some Kind of Wonderful. Both were Hughes penned but directed by Howard Deutch.

George Miller was one of the producers and writers in the BABE movies. He only directed the sequel, but when both installments are discussed, people talk as if George had directed both.

It wouldn't surprise me if people assumed Michael Bay directed Battleship (2012). Even the effects look directly lifted from the Transformers movies.

Orson Welles had a hand in directing and writing The Third Man. (He was rarely in the same country where shooting was happening and is often replaced by a body double.)
