Ari Aster is making a name for himself in the horror genre. IMO his directing style would suit a dark, goth-horror version of the original fairy tales that Disney made kid friendly. The original stories are dark, such as the ugly stepsisters actually cutting their feet off and The Little Mermaid killing herself. I know this will never happen since Disney owns the rights and is inundating us with mediocre retreads, but I can dream. Goth fairy tales would be great horror films. list25.com/25-dark-and-disturbing-original-versions-of-childrens-fairy-tales/

Aren't some of these stories in the public domain? That seems odd.

Robert Eggers would be a better choice.
