This is not a straight-up horror movie, but it's the best high school Christmas zombie musical I've ever seen:

Any 'Cabin Fever' fans? Personally I thought it was a tremendous and a fun ride. 8/10 beers It's ok, it has some effective moments, but it's also fucking weird and includes that bizarre 'pancakes' bit with the slow motion karate kick kid that makes absolutely no god damn sense at all. It's pretty much mediocre, but it's memorable for not being totally predictable. Have you seen the remake? It uses the same script apparently, but it's much shittier and totally bland. Sort of interesting as an experiment, I guess, but generally a waste of time.

I tried II on a couple of occasions - couldn't get into it - maybe I wasn't giving it my full attention. Had read the lead from the original (Rider Strong) had made a cameo

Haute Tension (and no - none of you saw the ending coming ) Haute Tension was a shameless rip off of the Dean Koontz book Intensity. The painfully stupid "twist" in Haute Tension was the directors moronic idea however.

Haute Tension (and no - none of you saw the ending coming. Woulda been a much better movie without the twist, imo. As a straight up slasher it was working...but the twist was illogical and seemed very flawed. I haven't seen the film in a while tho but part of the reason was because of how much i disliked that twist. The "twist" was not only stupid and pointless other than making the director try and hide the fact he ripped off Dean Koontz, it cheated the audience. I agree it should have been a straight forward slasher and should have credited Koontz. I always found it odd that some people praise HT as being "deeper" than the average slasher. Praise I find embarrassingly false. Maybe because it's French, people who are ashamed of watching horror movies delude themselves into thinking it's an art house movie.

Midsommar, from the same dude that made Hereditary is getting good buzz too. Just came out in theaters a few days ago. In the US anyway. So I just watched Midsommar on Saturday. Holy shit, talk about intense. The opening sequence establishes this sense of palpable dread that clings to the rest of the film and never eases up, really powerful stuff. Some of the most disturbing imagery I've ever seen on film to be honest, and I hate speaking in hyperbole. The movie itself is a splendid mix of continued dread and looming malevolence, but mixed with richly dark humor and a touch of the absurd. Its character arcs and flipping of certain genre tropes work wonders as Aster paints a world that is undeniably bleak yet hopeful in a weird sort of way. I highly recommend it, just be forewarned, there is some twisted shit in this movie.

Saw Hereditary for the first time about a month ago - it's the only type of movie that deeply disturbs me - thought the ending was creepy as hell. Gave Pumpkinhead and Pumpkinhead II a rewatch for the first time in years

Been on a big horror film kick lately but I'm running out of shit to watch. I've caught up on all the Conjuring-Verse movies outside of the new Annabelle film currently in theaters. Recently watched films like Lights Out, Sinister 2, a couple of the Insidious films, Possession of Hannah Grace, Rings etc. I watched some movie last night called The Possession starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick and it was pretty bad. Just looking for some suggestions. I've probably seen them but still I'm looking for something. Looking forward to Pet Cemetary and La Llorona to hit shelves to I can check them out. Nothing really in the new area atm. My favorite all time horror films are --- The Exorcist (the first one with Linda Blair). And Alien (the first one with Sigourney Weaver).

Gave Pumpkinhead and Pumpkinhead II a rewatch for the first time in years It definitely has Wicker Manish stuff going on, probably tough to avoid given the subject matter, but I found it wholly superior in almost every way. The original Wicker Man is good, but Midsommar is truly gripping. It's not "scary" in the traditional sense (Hereditary is probably scarier), but it got under my skin in ways that few movies have over the years. There's a LOT going on beneath the surface, tons of foreshadowing, some of which is thrown in your face and others that are subliminal, by way of a glancing shot of a drawing off to the side, or a pattern in someone's clothing. Granted, the opening sequence hit a little close to home for me for reasons I won't spoil as you haven't seen it, so maybe that was part of it, but the overall aura of the film is something to behold. I'm not lying when I say I haven't been able to stop thinking about it for the past 2 days. I happened to love Hereditary as well. If you enjoyed that, then you should definitely enjoy Midsommar. I never saw Pumpkinhead 2 but the original is a quality 80s horror film.

My older sisters made me watch the Exorcist when I was about 5 and it pretty much ruined my childhood. I refused to watch it for years afterwards. About a year or two ago, I decided to give it another go. I managed to suppress my childhood PTSD and appreciate what is an absolutely amazing horror film that is intimate, haunting, brilliantly paced and acted, and at times utterly terrifying. A true master work. Alien is also probably my favorite horror film of all time as well. Every frame is flawless.

Until The Exorcist came out, most horror movies were about slow monsters --- Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Creature from the Black Lagoon . . . etc. I figured I could just outrun them all. But how do you outrun the Devil ?? I saw that movie with two big football players. One "borrowed" his father's car without his permission. We saw it in an old theater with rats, cobwebs and drunken, sleeping bums during the week. I figured if I got scared, I could just look at them for comfort. Half way through the movie, I looked at them and they were so scared, they had pulled the upholstery off their theater seats. My family had two black and white TVs. One 19 inch in the den. And one 12 inch portable. My parents let me bring the 12 inch in my bedroom after they went to bed. I would watch Johnny Carson, and then Late Night with Tom Syder. Every night between those two shows they would play The Exorcist commercial. There were no remote controls back then. I could never turn off the TV, or turn the channel fast enough. That commercial would scare the poop out of me. I could never sleep after that commercial. ---- The alien coming out of the chest of that crew member was never done before. I thought that was genius.

So I'm an hour into Midsommar.
By God does this stink.
Does it get better?
I mean - it has a creepy vibe kind of like The Wicker Man - but is it sllllloooooowwwwwwww.
Maybe the payoff is at the end.
Stay tuned for my final review folks.

Well here's my review folks.
It's not for everybody.
Like the original Wicker Man, Lords of Salem, The Witch - I will not watch this again.
I think a horror film succeeds if it makes you uneasy - which this did - too eerie for me - I don't like movies about Cults (but for some reason I go into them knowing full well what they're all about).
This isn't your 'fun' horror movie - it makes you uneasy - Bravo - now I'm going to be creeped out for the rest of the day.
I need to watch an Adam Sandler flick now to get this out of my head.
