My husband and I play bridge with another couple every Wednesday. This other couple says lots of disparaging things about gay people. Today they went over the top. They often talk about gay marriage and how it should not be allowed, this time the husband went on about pedophilia and how 'Almost all gay men are pedophiles'. How does one deal with such people while still trying to keep love in your heart? Is gay people getting married something that bothers you? If so.... why? Flawed premise: It's not marriage. Regarding the couple, show them tolerance.... Tolerating bigotry is a violation of the principles of tolerance. And yes, it is a marriage, you bigoted fuckwit. |

That being said, I do NOT believe in labeling anyone and everyone that opposes gay marriage to be homophobic bigots. When I see an argument against gay marriage that isn't rooted in homophobia, then I'll agree. Until then, they're homophobic bigots. |

I'm a firefly  I've already said my piece more than once and the users you've mentioned often skirt any kind of argument I make and sometimes ignore it altogether. My lack of recent participation isn't conceding the debate, I'm just weary of repeating myself over and over. At the end of the day, gays are allowed to marry in most developed countries as more and more people are becoming tolerant and less bigoted. The people with hateful and oppressive beliefs are dying out. That is fact. As of June 26th, 2015 in the US (where I live), their opinions on my right to marry mean diddly squat. Like you said, this thread still holds conversational and even entertainment value and all of you are absolutely welcome to express yourself. Why pretend to be neutral Mr BlueJay? Correct. Pretense. He calls us 'extremes' and tries to level us "indirectly" to the indecency displayed by the toasted person. That's why this is a gang and it's a one-sided situation. |
