It's a wonder they do stuff like this as it would be like making a national movie day or national book day etc. just seems unnecessary as I can see having some days as important like Christmas, our birthdays, 4th of July etc since they have more of a effect on real life events etc.
but anyways to make some comments from some quotes in that article the OP posted...
Yeah, but how many games have any lasting value to most gamers? ; sure, some do but it's got to be a pretty limited amount in the big picture. like those games people look back on years later that left a lasting impression on them.
hence, the vast majority of video games are pretty much crap.
Personally I would go...
1)XBox 2)Nintendo 3)Playstation
although there would be one point I would have placed Nintendo last (especially after the Nintendo 64 days). but at this point in time looking back on things, how I ranked above pretty much sums things up for me.
Out of those I would go with Mario/Gran Theft Auto as my top choices (there are some other decent ones but some I got pretty much little to no interest in). but at the same time I think Mafia (series(especially the first game or so)) blows GTA series out of the water as Mafia has to be my all around #1 gaming experience (the first game is a straight up masterpiece as I replayed it in Aug 2018, which I finished it on it's 16th anniversary, and it's still a strong game to this day and still gives me a solid emotional response at the ending). the GTA series is overrated as playing the games through the general story, Mafia is clearly better in my book as it's got better all around feel to the gameplay, characters are more interesting etc etc. I know I am not the only person who praises the first Mafia game. but given a lot of these gamers today seem to be a bit too concerned with graphics, that masterpiece will go unnoticed.
but strictly between those on that list... there is no way in hell I would place Call of Duty #2 as that series fizzled out a long time ago as it was decent enough early in the series but by the time it got hugely popular (or so), it seems at that point it was pretty much just recycling the same-ol-crap but people kept on eating it up. in terms of multiplayer shooter games... Counter-Strike (on PC) is by far the best all around as Call of Duty/Halo are not even close in my mind.
Strictly between those choices... at this point in time I would be more of the 'Rarely' group (when I do play games nowadays it's typically going to be a replay of something I liked in the past). but in the past (say about 10-15+ years ago) I would have definitely been in the 'Everyday' group pretty much.
but with that said... for probably about 5-10 years now I don't really consider myself in the 'Rarely' group but at the same time the other two choices there would not suit me either as I don't play anywhere near often enough for those to apply to me. but I would say in general by the time I was around 30 years of age my general video game playing started to fizzle as less and less was worth playing. now I largely replay games I liked in the past from time-to-time. I plan on replaying Mafia II (on PC) before this year is finished. I can't believe it's going on 9 years since I first played Mafia II (on PC). hell, Mafia II is the reason I got my previous graphics card (Radeon 5670 512MB) for my computer and then you could pretty much say my current GPU (graphics card), 1050 Ti 4GB, I got mostly for Mafia III although I was a bit late to the Mafia III party as I never got around to playing that til about a year or two after it's release in Oct 2016 (it was released on PC in Oct 2016) and I never got my graphics card til July 2017 and waited a while before getting around to playing Mafia III etc.
personally I think gaming on a phone is pretty much crap. why bother?
but I suspect those who game on a phone are largely those more casual types who might want to burn a little time here and there and ain't got much else to do or access to better gaming options at the time.
Personally I would disagree with that as while they continually get better from a graphics perspective as time passes(because of technology advancements), the overall gameplay seems to have been largely stagnant for quite sometime now. I realize they have Virtual Reality stuff, which I guess is basically going in a new direction, but in terms of the more standard kinds of video gaming we have had for many years now things are not advancing all that much as, like I said, it's pretty much became stagnant as back in the old days things advanced more than they do lately in a overall gameplay perspective like going from 2D-to-3D and it took a while before 3D really matured from a gameplay point of view but those days are mostly gone now as it seems, to ball park things, by the early-to-mid 2000's things pretty much leveled off. but I guess even looking at things from a console perspective you could say once PS2/XBox came along in 2000-2001 that's pretty much the point when consoles became modern like they are today. so it was not long after this point when general gaming became mature and with that growth largely became stagnant in overall gameplay.
Personally I think a high percentage of games ain't worth playing and especially finishing (so that pretty much means I could pretty much label many games boring). but some have given me a great all around experience to rival some of the top movies etc.
