What's your opinion on fantasy sports?
I resisted the institution for a long time as I observed players who seemed to be more invested in stats and individual numbers than the sport itself, indeed, knowing more about how many fantasy points a QB got than which team had won a given game. Indeed, when I tried fantasy hockey several years ago, I found that I would check the stats of my own players before the scores of the actual games. I didn't like what I was becoming. However, I took part in fantasy NFL last year and crushed it as a rookie, so naturally I'm in for the long haul. It's fun to root for individual players in games you're otherwise neutral towards.
I also play fantasy Premier League and it's a good way to stay plugged into aspects of sports that you would otherwise pay little to no attention to; in this case, what's going on with the lower-tier and mid-table teams outside of the big name clubs.
However, I would only play in one league per sport at a time and certainly the results of the actual sports trump my fantasy prowess at all times in terms of my rooting interest.

Probably none of the above. I don't partake and have no idea why anyone would want to.

I've got an addiction to fantasy football. It's one I can handle, but it's an addiction.
But I agree with you with what I care about more: I'll root for the Steelers over my fantasy team every week. Real fandom supersedes fantasy.

Fantasy sports is awesome. Fantasy football is the best imo. Just has the best format and is done in one weekend instead of lasting a full weeks worth of scoring. I would watch so many other teams games simply because I had vesting interest in a fantasy aspect. Why else would I have been watching games like Lions vs Browns in the past?
I also play Fantasy Baseball and Basketball. Baseball I follow and do well in. Basketball I only follow through my fantasy team. I know some players but mostly when I draft I'm just throwing money at some guys. In 4 years in doing the league I've won the league once (my first year), missed the playoffs the next 2, and then this year came in 2nd after having the league's highest scoring team. In baseball I am in the playoffs every year and have won my league multiple times. Sadly this year my team has been fucked with injuries to key players.
So yeah, fucking play fantasy. It's awesome. Get a pool of money going to start the season like $20 or $40 bucks and the league winner gets the pot. It's a whole lot of fun. No idea why anybody tries to look down on it anymore. Some of the most fun days of the year for me is when me and my college friends get back together for draft day and make a day of it. It's also a nice way for friends to stay connected to one another when you eventually move away from each other.

Because people like staying connected to old friends somehow while they all move away from each other and nearly grow apart? That's honestly one of my biggest arguments for it. It can be a big way of staying connected to a group of friends who you may RARELY see anymore.

With all of us married at least ten years ago, draft day is the only guaranteed day of the year that all 12 of us are communicating with each other on the same day. Draft day has become one of the ten days that I look most forward to each year for just this reason.

Yay. Though I don't play super seriously. I usually draft players I like & young blue chippers that can be had late. It's just something to tinker with & keep me in tune with a season. At the end of the day, fantasy sports is just another form of lottery - picking players is akin to picking numbers & you hope they turn out.

I used to play fantasy football and baseball every year, often multiple leagues. Don't play either anymore but I can appreciate how fun (and infuriating) they can be. The prior posts about using the leagues as a vehicle for keeping in touch with old friends is spot on. Even on the old IMDB board, we used to do an annual fantasy football league and it was fun and helped some of us get to know one another a little better.

I’m more in the ‘used to play, now don’t’ category. I felt like I stopped enjoying watching sports, and was more concerned with fantasy stats. I didn’t want that, I didn’t like it. I’m glad I never did fantasy baseball.

I used to be a die hard fantasy sports junkie. A few years ago I stepped back when I realized that I didn’t actually enjoy watching sports anymore. Watching a game without worrying about every stupid little play is much more enjoyable for me.
I seriously recommend it. Take an NFL or MLB season off from fantasy, life is much better without it.

Yay for me. I've been in some sort of fantasy league for the past 20 years or so. I've been in a keeper league with some guys from work the past 10 years or so. Those are a totally different ball game because you're not only playing for the current season, but seasons down the road. You do things that you wouldn't normally do such as pick up a rookie that may not see the big league for a couple years down the road and sit on him.
I've also dabbled in daily fantasy games like fanduel. I've had decent success with the NBA.

I don’t play, but I don’t mind that others do. I’ve just never gotten the appeal of it and I think playing fantasy sports would take away my enjoyment from the actual games.

Fantasy playoffs. What used to be a cute side note to fantasy is reality for my baseball team right now - towards the end of the season, when many of the best players are on the clinched in real life teams, their playing time diminishes too often. Right now I've got guys who've been day to day lately & just tonight for example Guriel was merely a pinch hitter. After a dominant 2019, my fantasy team is struggling for quality at bats. #firstworldproblems
Fantasy football is worse because stars are benched outright for health protection.
I think fantasy playoff teams should be allowed to add 3-5 more players, including those already on active non fantasy playoff rosters.

He's only been with the team a few days. He has the talent to tear it up even on simple routes vs the Dolphins, but it's not like they'll need him in that game. Plus I have Calvin Ridley and Michael Gallup ready to rock in WR spots. What say you??!!

I already benched Marquise's monster week 1 for Jordan Howard at utility. Right now I'm benching AB because he may not see quality touches still learning the Patriots' offense. So probably go with him because I am Fantasy Thanos. New England at Miami, the Dolphins might even win by 55 & wouldn't shock me. That game is an annual twilight zone.
