I must say, you sure picked a hot time to visit Monument Valley. My brother lives fairly near there. Will you be visiting any other sites in Northern Arizona or Southern Utah? Drink lots of water, use sun screen and wear a wide brimmed hat.

First up, Kijii -- riding the Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in Durango, Colorado.
Then trying to straddle all of the Four Corners -- before the drive to Monument Valley.

Have yourself a high time in the High Country, Matt. I wish you and yours safe passage. That can be treacherous territory. Rustlers, Rattlers and Road Agents abound. I recommend you find yourself an escort. In fact, I have one in mind. They say he's the best.

-- While still looking forward to the upcoming journey and grand adventure that commences today ... -- the QM is beginning to feel some trepidation following concerns fueled by a series of recent and recurring nightmares ... -- all dealing with the same anxieties:
********************************************************************************************
An old QM went ridin' out Monument Valley way Upon a ridge he rested after many miles that day When all at once appeared a herd of Contest Gaffes galore The kind that caused Matt to look dumb And made Garth Players sore
Their goofs were still on fire from each Contest's dirty deal Memories still were vivid of the Quizzes they did steal A bolt of fear went through him as each Gaffer thundered by For in pursuit came Garth Players, and he heard their mournful cry:
'Yucky - Oh No! Yucky - No Way!' Garth Players in the Sky _____________________________________________________________
Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, computers soaked with sweat They're searchin' hard to find answers, but they ain't found 'em yet 'Cause they're doomed to post forever in that Contest in the sky For they keep on gettin' N-T-As, but they can't figure out why
As the Players loped on by him, he heard one call his name ('Hey you down there -- yeah you, Quizmaster Garth!') "If you want to save your soul from hell stuck in Games you can't tame Then QM, change your Quiz today or with us you will play A-tryin' to find how Alice Faye can match up with Joel Grey"
'Yucky - no links! Yucky - this stinks'
Garth Players in the Sky Garth Players in the Sky Garth Players in ... the ... Sky-y-y

That's it -- they're calling for passengers on the flight to Denver Oh, First Class -- that's not me See you in less than a fortnight (that's two weeks to some of you)

First up, Kijii -- riding the Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in Durango, Colorado. Then trying to straddle all of the Four Corners -- before the drive to Monument Valley. Great places to visit--my old stomping grounds--growing up in SW Colorado. Mesa Verde National Park is not far from the Four Corners and is interesting place to visit-- highly recommend. To me, these cliff dwellings are one of the most underrated Wonders of the World. It is hard to imagine how this could have ever been constructed. It should be been known than it is.. Across the Wide Missouri (1951) was filmed where I once attended Scout camp: Haviland Lake near Durango. A Ticket to Tomahawk (1950) was filmed around the Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Denver and Rio Grande (1952) may have been made based on the Railroad too. The Naked Spur (1953) and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) were partially filmed there also. The Sheepman (1958) and Tribute to a Bad Man (1956) were filmed near Montrose (further north from where you might be).

Enjoy and hydrate often, Matt!

Warning: the QM may still be posting when the time, the inclination, and the access are present.
As for now -- seeking a Durango eatery that serves great Spam Barbeque.

Always good eats at the Ericson place in Shinbone. Some rough customers though. Make sure your steak hasn't been dropped on the floor.

After discovering a swell Spam B-B-Q, wandered over on this first night for a night-cap at Durango's notorious 'Wild Horse Saloon.'
And was even just buzzed enough to borrow a stray guitar to climb onstage and perform an old favorite --
-----------------------------------------------
Sioux City SueSioux City Sue
Your hair is gold Your eyes are blue I'd swap my horse and dog for you
Sue City Sue Sue City Sue There ain't no gal as true As my sweet Sue City Sue
---------------------------------------------
The patrons must have enjoyed it I received a sitting ovation Some even applauded me -- although using just one-hand Actually, it was only the middle finger
I'll try to send along a picture of the event
Onto the railroad ride in the morn

Have fun. You meet the nicest people on trains. You might even find someone to sing with.
