This is a trend that seems to intensify with time. Fans of the newest incarnation of a beloved character feel compelled to tear down the old incarnation to bring complete and utter validation to the new.
We saw it when Batman Begins came out and everyone decided that Batman 89 was UTTER SH#T. (I was guilty of this too then)
We saw it when TASM came out and suddenly the Raimi series was UTTER SH%T.
We saw it when Batflek was announced and suddenly Bale was UTTER SH%T. (This one is laughable in hindsight)
Now of course we see it with the Holland movies and, again, Spiderman 2.
It is a fascinating phenomenon. One that is actually quite comparable to the way new religions throughout history supplant older religions by declaring the old ones heresy. That is essentially what fanboys are doing here- declaring the old movies to be heresy. I find that both hillarious and kind of disturbing.
The grand and glorious idol that is Spiderman 2 will always have its faithful though. You cannot purge the comic book landscape of the Golden God Sam Raimi or his prophet Tobey MacGuire! Lest you try, you shall be devoured by a legion of Green Goblins for all eternity!

My personal view remains the same
Spider-Man 1 & especially 2 great
TASM 1 & 2 - very good
MCU Spider-Man - great
Spider-Man 3 - steaming turd

By all means keep your high regard for Spider-man 1 and Spider-man 2. Just don't be afraid to accept that something new can be better. Not saying it has to be better but say there is the potential in you to think so. I've seen way to many people on the other side of the argument. Someone who loves the new ones but catches shit because some fetishize the first two Raimi. I still think Spiderman 2 is the best by a decent margin but I think I put Far from Home over Spider-man 1 now. I'm not saying you have too, but open to MCU Spiderman 3 could be there for you. I know people both online (and here) and friends offline who says it's impossible the best Spiderman has already been made it doesn't matter what comes next Spiderman 2 (and 1) can't be beat.

I admit it goes both ways. And perhaps I am a zealot for Spiderman 1-2. In fact, I definately am. I just hate seeing so many people trying to tear it down simply because it is a celebrated movie that they happen to not like. If anyone thinks Far From Home is better that's completely fine. I'm not saying their opinion is invalid. |

Raimi's style is just too overly corny to me. I liked Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, but his Spider-man movies... And you can tell they gave him more leash in the second one because he put a lot of Evil Dead references in it.

I think it's because it wasn't all just about Spider-Man. Most these superhero movies revolve around the hero taking on the villain and that's about it.
But the original Spider-Man movies were also about Peter Parker and his relationships and his life too.
It was that which made the movies popular with females as well unlike other superhero movies at the time and was why those movies were so much more successful than any other superhero movie back then.

Eventually the people trashing Spider-man 2 will calm down once the hype for FFH dies down. Same thing happened when homecoming came out. Everyone called homecoming better than Spider-man 2 but eventually calmed down when the hype ended.

The original Spider-Man movies also had a Peter Parker that most people could empathize with and root for. Peter had plenty of problems: relationship problems with the girl he likes , falling behind in his classes at school, his boss is a jerk, Aunt May was struggling to pay the mortgage. Those are all problems that most people have had at 1 time or another so we can empathize with Peter and root for Peter. And on top of all those problems, Peter's best friend thinks that Spider-Man killed his father and Peter's boss has the entire city thinking that Spider-Man is a menace to the city. Peter is the ultimate underdog and that's why most people could root for Peter. By contrast, MCU Peter doesn't have any problems. He gets invited to parties and has a date for the Homecoming Dance with the girl he has a crush on. He does well in school (he's on the Academic Decathlon Team so he must be getting good grades). He doesn't have to get a job, he doesn't have to hide Spider-Man's secret identity from his best friend, and Aunt May gets free meals in restaurants. MCU Peter doesn't have any problems at school or any financial problems. He basically gets everything he wants or needs (he can fly anywhere in the world on a Stark Industries private jet). And even then, he behaves like an immature and selfish brat, using EDITH to order a drone attack against a fellow classmate just because that fellow classmate is his competition for MJ and got an embarrassing photo of Peter with his pants down. And worst of all, Peter (who had a chance to stop the thief who murdered Uncle Ben but took no action) knows that a fire monster is going to attack Prague similar to the water monster that attacked Venice and Peter has a chance to warn the 2 chaperones to keep the class away from Prague but once again Peter takes no action and just lets the class go to Prague, where they could be seriously hurt or killed. It's hard to root for an immature and selfish brat like that.

I agree completely. The screenplays were top notch character pieces. Raimi's directing was also in a class of its own. And these movies truly felt like event movies. The Avengers movies are also superbly written and directed, and are also event movies. But the new Spidey movies simply feel like light weight entries that are enjoyable, but hardly classic material. They set a low bar- too low for an A Lister like Spiderman.

What I never liked about Amazing was Peter/Spidey felt like secondary characters. Raimi rocks. But I see no problem accepting things on their own merits Raimi's Spidey was great for the day. It is college Spidey. MCU is the original High School kid Spidey. Wonderful in a different way

They've already completely ignored the fact that Bucky murdered 2 innocent civilians and is a fugitive from the law and ignored the fact that Cap is also a fugitive from the law after aiding and abetting Bucky to flee from the law.
