Well these are surprising results. I like True Lies, but Speed is pretty much a perfect action movie. I think it's gotten underrated in later years. It's the perfect action movie until the last act, when it just turns into a subway train version of what we just saw. Seriously, even down to the track not being finished.

Speed (1994) ; hands down.-Speed (1994) - 7/10 (within my Top 151 movies) -True Lies (1994) - 5/10 (Thumbs Down)
p.s. I did like True Lies until a re-watch on Oct 1st 2014 and Speed dropped from a 9/10 to it's current score on June 16th 2017.
Marv While Arnold seems cool and all, Keanu clearly has been in better movies in my mind overall as there are more movies from Keanu I give a 7/10 or higher than there is from Arnold. even up through 1994 I would still put Keanu ahead as it pretty much boiled down to the following for me... Point Break (1991)(8/10)/Speed (1994)(7/10) vs The Terminator (1984) (9/10). so while individually Arnold would come out on top here, overall I would give Keanu the edge. but looking at everything they have been in it clearly shifts in Keanu's favor for me... Arnold... 1)The Terminator (1984) - 9/10 2)Terminator 3 (2003) - 8/10 3)Terminator Genysis (2015) - 6-6.5/10 Keanu... 1)Point Break (1991) - 8/10 2)The Devil's Advocate (1997) - 7.5-8/10 3)Speed (1994) - 7/10 4)John Wick (2014) - 6.5-7/10 -)Street Kings (2008) so Keanu has a clear lead overall in my book. p.s. years ago both had more movies I scored a 7/10 or higher but they have since fallen off and there is still some other movies from each I like but they don't stand out from the pack.
I have nostalgia from Speed but none from True Lies as I first seen about half of Speed in wood shop class back in high school and then not long after that my parents went out and got it on VHS (I still have the VHS tape to this day) and I re-watched it quite a bit back in the late 1990's. but I can assure you, that's not effecting my score of it in why I put it higher than True Lies as I simply enjoy watching Speed more than True Lies straight up. in fact, based on my initial comments in here, Speed has actually dropped in score on my most recent re-watch of it, even though it still remains among my favorite movies.

I'm wondering how many votes are based on objectivity and on nostalgia. Both films would benefit from similar nostalgia

I like both, but True Lies combines great action sequences with a hefty dose of humour, so I've gotta go for that.

Fan of both, may go with True Lies because I find it more watchable.

It's the perfect action movie until the last act, when it just turns into a subway train version of what we just saw. Seriously, even down to the track not being finished. The same with the second act, which is a bus version of what we just saw on the elevator. The movie is a series of three set pieces that keep going bigger, and I'm completely fine with that.

The thing that hurts True Lies though is the overlong middle segment of the movie with Helen having an affair. It's not boring or bad, but too much time is devoted to it that it feels like it's detracting from the main plot. Thankfully, things get back on course and stay there after the strip tease.
Speed has very few lulls and the weakest scene of the movie (Keanu and his cop buddies having drinks to celebrate) doesn't last too long. It may lose a little steam at the end with the runaway train, but it's not bad and doesn't last long.

The last act is TOO similar to the main act for my liking. The first act doesn't have, "the track isn't finished, we have to jump it."
