M:I - Fallout should have been nominated last year. Black Panther was nominated but not M:I? What a joke. Black Panther is a crappy movie. The plot of Black Panther is simply "Angry black man wants to strike back at the white oppressors." That's it. Nothing thought-provoking or special about that. Certainly unworthy of a Best Picture nomination. But the Academy was scared of being labeled racist if they didn't nominate Black Panther. So that's why the Academy nominated Black Panther. Because MCU shamelessly used the race card to scare the Academy into giving Black Panther a Best Picture nomination when everyone knows Black Panther was unworthy of a Best Picture nomination.

jamesbamesyYeah, I see what you mean as 'Action' can be mixed with quite a few other genres and I see what you mean as it don't appear there is any concrete way to say what's truly action vs what might have some action but might be mostly another type of movie etc. so while we can use IMDb as a general guideline... it pretty much comes back to our personal opinions on what's more pure action vs something that's blended with other genres and some of those might even favor something like Drama over Action etc. even using IMDb's genre stuff it says there are 14 'Action' movies among my favorites (i.e. movies I gave a 7/10 or higher) in the 2010-2019 time frame and not every one of them I would consider more legitimate action even though I can see why IMDb considers 'Action' as part of their genre. but some I feel are more Sci-Fi for example than Action like Source Code (2010). but one I feel one could argue a good case for either way between Action/Sci-Fi is Edge of Tomorrow (2014). then something like The Book of Eli (2010) is listed as 'Action | Adventure | Drama' and I feel one could make a decent case for a balance of those to where if a person wanted to consider it a 'Action' movie I don't think I could fault them, at least not much, or if they wanted to claim a bit more Drama I could see that angle to etc. Looking at my general IMDb stuff it seems Drama is one of the key things for me in that plenty of quality movies have that as apart of their genre and it's THE genre I have seen the highest volume of movies straight up. here are the only categories on IMDb that I have seen at least 700+ titles (which I suspect roughly plays inline with what I tend to like the most on an average)... -Crime - 733 titles -Action - 855 titles -Drama - 1,239 titles -Thriller - 1,100 titles but just looking at movies I consider good enough to be a favorite (i.e. my 7/10's and higher) in the current 2010's decade (i.e. 2010-2019) there are a total of 40 movies and 29 of those have 'Drama' as apart of their genre according to IMDb. so basically about 72.5% of my favorite movies in the decade IMDb considers 'Drama' apart of their genre. NOTE: I basically used the IMDb advanced search to find this info pretty much. with that said... I assume Horror is one of your personal top choices? ; I am just curious to see what you have seen the most and what genres you generally like the most etc.

My top choices for horror are Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street (the originals). Looking at my ratings on IMDb, the most I’ve rated are: Adventure - 339 Comedy - 337 Horror - 328 Thriller - 278 Action - 277 I think the comedy one has to do with me watching a lot of animated movies growing up. Of course I’m still watching movies continuously so these numbers will go up.

Lethal Weapon 2, with apartheid-era South African white guys as the villans. Probably not in Black Panther's league, I wonder how a Best Picture nod would have gone down back then.
Black Panther is still a multiple Oscar winner. Boohoo.

I chalk it up to snobbery. Heck horror films rarely get awards acknowledgment.

for me I think Comedy and Horror genres are largely a dime-a-dozen even though I do have some strong Comedy movies here and there and I do like some Horror movies.
but if I used the 150+ movies seen standard here is how the genres (in terms of average score) would rank for me according to IMDb...
1)Crime 2)Action 3)Drama 4)Thriller 5)Adventure 6)Comedy (545 titles seen) 7)Sci-Fi 8)Mystery 9)Romance 10)Fantasy 11)Horror (268 titles seen)
and given that info, along with my general thoughts off the top of my head, I tend to see Horror and Comedy as mostly a dime-a-dozen even though I do have some strong Comedy types of movies but these are usual mixed with something else as in terms of straight comedy types of movies these tend to be harder to find. I sort of singled those two types (Horror/Comedy) out since they seem to be popular among the masses.
but thanks for the info.
Personally I think the Horror genre is just not that great straight up (I realize some might be fairly praised but they seem to be few and far between off the top of my head). so while I can't exclude it outright, it's largely out in my book since that genre is sort of what I refer to as the genre that's a dime-a-dozen as it seems like a genre people go to just to make a quick buck etc.
so between Action vs Horror... I think Action is clearly ahead on my book as a decent action movie tends to beat a decent horror movie.

The Academy are snobs towards films like these even when you get the rare ones that are well-acted, well-written, well-directed, well-edited, well-executed, etc. Cough* The Dark Knight * cough Agreed!
