Used to love getting Athlon's magazine and football preview as a kid. Top 25 per Athlon: 25. Virginia 24. Iowa State 23. Missouri 22. UCF 21. Syracuse 20. Auburn 19. Wisconsin 18. Iowa 17. Nebraska 16. Michigan State 15. Oregon 14. Penn State 13. Utah 12. Washington 11. Texas 10. Texas A&M 9. Notre Dame 8. Florida 7. LSU 6. Oklahoma 5. Ohio State 4. Michigan 3. Georgia 2. Clemson 1. Alabama What's the best conference in college football folks? I'm going SEC. Who's your Final 4? I'm going to put myself out there and go out on a giant limb and state: 4. Ohio State 3. Oklahoma 2. Clemson 1. 'Bama 'Bama wins title.

I can’t wait for football, about a month away!!
SEC is the best conference, it is loaded once again: Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida, Missouri, A&M, Auburn etc.
I’m not buying in to all of the hype surrounding Michigan, they will come up short yet again IMO, their defense doesn’t look as good as it was last season IMO and I think Shea Patterson is an overrated QB, he’s never impressed me at all.
The Big 10 is getting overrated again IMO, Penn St is mediocre and I’m not even sure if I would have them in the top 25, I do think Nebraska will be much improved and I think they will become a solid program again under Frost.
My playoff prediction is
Clemson Alabama Ohio St Georgia
With Alabama defeating Clemson in the title game.

Maybe after all these years they're turning things around. They've fallen so far over the years. I remember when they used to be Elite in the Big 12 with wars with Oklahoma. To me - it still seems funny watching them play in the Big 10.

Also shocked to see Texas so high.
Every year it seems we hear they're going to be turning things around.
Last 'big' year from them was in 2009 when they went 13-1.
Since then they've been so mediocre and abysmal.
They did go 10-4 last year - maybe Tom Herman has them on the right track - this is going to be his 3rd year.
sidenote -
Texas A&M is another team I still can't get used to in another conference (SEC) - to me they should be warring with Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, TCU, Nebraska......

As a Noles fan, I'm partial to the ACC because of how hilariously varied it is up & down the Eastern seaboard. It's the fun & sometimes silly football power with a dominating basketball ledger. I do like the Pac-12 because they seem to always have the highest floor in the country. Sure, they can't seem to break out more than 1 or 2 teams a year, yet nearly every single match-up is good football tv.

Texas got things turned around last year, they won 10 games and beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. They have a lot of talent again and I could see them winning the Big 12 Title this year.

Every year my college friends and I go to a college football game to shoot the shit, see the sights, and get tanked. This year (our 25th): Texas Tech at Oklahoma.

Any idea how the Red Raiders look this year. Did you and your buddies go to Tech or Oklahoma - or you just picked a game site to get together....

Every year, we pick out a campus and go watch a game there. The vast majority of us went to James Madison University, so, while a 1-AA power, we didn't have the experience of watching the big games. Since then, we've gone to games at LSU, Michigan, Penn State, Auburn, Miami, Boise State, Oregon, UCLA, Arizona, Mississippi, Syracuse, Wisconsin, Colorado, etc, etc. It's an absolute blast - - you get to see another part of the country and how they celebrate college football. Couldn't recommend it enough.

SEC is the best conference again. I did a brief rundown on the Power 5 conferences in a different thread so I won't repeat that here. Playoffs will be
Georgia Clemson Oklahoma Michigan
Bama's out because Dawgs win SEC Championship and because
Michigan beats ohio st without urban and with Fields at QB. They committee won't snub big 10 3 years in a row. Fields may not be a complete bust but the kid can't read a defense and he has a really slow release with little patience at this point. Wouldn't be surprised to see THE lose 2 or more games.
No one in the ACC can come close to beating Clemson so they are as close to a lock for the playoffs barring injury as there has ever been.
Oklahoma with Hurts at QB will put up insane numbers and outscore the rest of the Big 12.
The University of Georgia Bulldogs will win title and I will cry like a baby as I ring the Chapel Bell.

Pac 12 is probably as deep as SEC this year but without those 1-3 teams that are head and shoulders above the rest. That is a disadvantage. Too much parity makes for entertaining games but not great for the conference making the playoffs. See Big 10 the past 2 seasons. I would like to see a Pac 12 team in the playoffs personally.

I always loved the backdrops of both stadiums i.e. when the camera pans outside the stadium. Neyland Stadium packs over 100,000 - looks like an awesome raucous atmosphere (especially when they're good - but that pretty much dates back to Peyton) - especially at night in the Fall if it's a game vs. Georgia, Florida, 'Bama, Auburn, LSU - the Smokey Mountains are in the background - I've got to put that on the bucket list for a weekend trip one fall.

Absolutely - - those are two that have been in the hopper for a while. Probably 75% of our group are on the East Coast, so that UW game is a hard sell - - you almost have to make it a four day trip to make it worth it. It's crazy how far Seattle is away from everything - - once the Raiders move to Las Vegas, every other team is going to be at least 700 miles away from the Seahawks. The Vikings are closer to Denver than the 49ers are to Seattle, and that will be the closest team once the Raiders move. I could see Tennessee being one in the next few years. Still some big ones left to do: Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Texas, Nebraska. We were scheduled to go to Florida State the week that 9/11 happened, so I'm pushing for us going there in 2021 for the 20th year anniversary.

One of our friends will not fly - - in high school he took a flight with horrible turbulence and just won't do it. He lives in Virginia and one that we haven't done yet that fits for the atmosphere is West Virginia. I want to see some couches being burned.

I still can't get used to West Virginia in the Big 12. Do they (I'm hoping / assuming) still schedule Pitt? Perhaps Rivalry Week the week prior to Turkey Day? That would be a blast. Bloodbath Rivalry.

Bloodbath Rivalry. No, West Virginia and Pitt never play anymore. It’s too bad because that was a great rivalry, but the Mountaineers fit in nicely in the Big 12 IMO.

Well, ok, I guess 🤷♀️ You might not like it though, especially if I've had a slab of cider and a vindaloo the day before (pretty much every day).
