Kudos for mentioning Barfly. I thought I was the only one who likes it. At first I thought it was depressing, but after repeated viewings, I grew to love it. Somebody once said "Rourke just oozes sleaze". It became pretty funny to me because his character is such a sarcastic smartass.
[EMS services knocks on his door. Henry looks as if he hasn't bathed for weeks and has a large amount of blood all over his t-shirt as he opens the door]
EMS: "Are you Henry Chinaski?"
Henry: "NOO, I'M LEON SPINKS!!!" [slams door]

I'm not so much a fan of the movie as I am of the performances. Roger Ebert was a big fan of the movie though. He rated it 4/4 stars and included it in his Top 10 best movies of 1987 list.

I can understand that. I wouldn't give it a 4/4 because it isn't much of a story. I've just developed a personal bias for it as a character study.

It's certainly not a bad movie though and I still think it is a movie people should seek out.

I am not a fan of his performance in The Fifth Element. It's mildly amusing at best. I have mixed feelings about his performance as Chrurchhill. It's sort of an empty imitation imo, though his scene on the train is fantastic. I probably could have listed JFK.
