Kal-El's cinematic track record is spotty at best. I'm going with Superman III on this one. A painfully unfunny Richard Pryor vehicle that is also stupefying in its idiocy. That whole opening credits sequence is really mind boggling; at least Superman IV, in its attempt at high drama, offers plenty of laughs.

Despite being one of the dullest comic book superheroes, I can think of only one truly abysmal Superman movie...Quest For Peace. Haven't seen it in years so it might now have a so bad it's enjoyable level. N/S Mole Men

Like Rebuild-the-Great-Wall-of-China-Vision from Superman 3 bad. You do have to enjoy that it was even made. "Alright, let's give Superman a real threat. Sure it ignored most of the laws of space, but at least it had Gene Hackman back as Luthor and his way of saying "Nucular Man". Man of Steel was depressing and completely anti-everything that is Superman I agree. 3 and 4 are terrible movies, but 4 is at least cheesy fun (and it's got Hackman, as you mention!). Man of Steel, though, is the worst of the lot. It's not cheesy fun; it's just depressing and dull. 3 and 4 at least understand they're Superman pictures, even if they do it badly. Man of Steel doesn't seem to understand even that. |

Quest For Peace was just a cheap cash grab; flogging the dead horse of a worn out franchise. In terms of the amount of resources thrown at them, I'd have to go with a tie between Superman Returns and Man of Steel. There was simply no excuse for producing such appalling movies.

I loved Superman Returns and Singer did a pretty good job.
