I haven't seen the previous films but was impressed with John Wick 3.
Almost no plot, Keanu Reeves acting his heart out to zero effect, a film with nothing but SFX.

The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. I thing George started focusing more on plot in RotS. After all, that's the one where everything happens. Ol
Oh, and Avatar. The plot and characters are as tired as can be, but zomg 3D and mocap!

As an older example, One Million Years BC.’ (1966)
The selling point for that was the FX and Raquel Welch in a bikini. It was like the beach blanket movie combined with dinosaurs.
Twister--when someone sued Michael Crichton for that one--Spielberg said the movie was like %20 story and 80% FX so the plaintiff had no case since story didnt matter.
