Ireland start well. 29 for none after first 10 overs. Already the biggest partnership of the match!

Its all still double dutch to me. Why cant these scores be easy to follow like the football. Well, it is because there are two components in cricket (runs & wickets) whereas there is only one component (goals) in football. England's first innings total was 85-all out also called 85 for loss of all ten wickets (85-10). Ireland are currently 90-2 which means they have made 90 runs in the first innings till now for the loss of 2 wickets. They still have 8 wickets in hand and have erased England's first innings lead and in fact are now 5 runs in lead. Test matches are of 2 innings so England will play one more inning. The team that score more runs in the combined two innings allotted to them wins the game. So if Ireland score 175 in the first innings and take 90 runs lead and England score 250 runs in second innings then Ireland will need to score 161 runs to win the game in the second innings. Edit - Ireland are now 111-2.
