As in, theme music from Halloween, The Exorcist, Psycho, the Shining, NOES, Friday the 13th, Scream, etc. is disqualified.
My vote goes to It Follows (2014).

Some might disagree saying this is more comedy but as I just rewatched this a few days ago, the themefrom Return of The Living Dead came to mind

I donβt think the Saw theme gets enough credit as deserved.

I donβt think the Saw theme gets enough credit as deserved. I guess you're right. It's pretty well known, but I think people tend to make fun of it. It was fairly effective the first time, I guess, but as the movies got worse it seemed more ridiculous and overused.

I like the renditions each film has for the song, even if itβs just the same thing over and over.

I never really even liked the first one, but they definitely got worse and worse and using the same music again and again began to feel like a real cliche. Not the fault of the music itself, but it began to seem ridiculous to some just from being associated with bad movies.

My vote goes to Insidious (2010). Man, that score gave me serious heebie-jeebies.

Does the Phantasm theme count as un-iconic? I know itβs a favourite among passionate horror fans, but the theme itself isnβt as well recognized with the popular ones I find.

Candyman by none other than Philip Glass:
Speaking of Barker, I think Hellraiser has great bombastic score that doesn't really get talked about:
And this only shows up during the end credits of the first movie, but maybe they should have used it more because it's great:

As mentioned previously, Danny Elfman's score for Sleepy Hollow (1999).
I'd also like to mention his score for The Frighteners (1996).
