Underrated film. One of Tim Burton's best in my opinion.

He should make more movies like this and less like Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, etc.

About 25% of Big Fish is the Tim Burton of old – the film stylist who dazzled us in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood. The other 75% could have been the output of any rookie director, especially the long, drawn out, tear jerking ending that just goes on and on and on. I expected Burton himself at any moment to start to bang me over the head with a baseball bat while yelling, “Cry, damn you! Cry!”
I cringed, but I didn’t cry.

It's my 1st or 2nd favorite Tim Burton movie.

I love this movie. It does sort of beat you over the head in places, but I really didn't mind.
Danny DeVito's prosthetic werewolf foot is my favorite part.
There are small parts played by very good actors, which to me made the story. If the main character was known for telling stories, he'd have known to flesh out the cast of his stories. So all the bit characters really stood out with either unique traits or lines. Ewan MacGregor is often playing the straight man (very well too) because the narrator speaks about the surroudings, other people, etc...pretty much anything other than himself. Showing not telling.
I miss this Tim Burton. I do like to think he poked a little fun at himself with the witch stuff...not the story, but overplaying the aesthetic he's known for. Probably wrong on that, but a man can dream.

I fully expected this just to be another film. I was unprepared for the catharsis I was getting ready to experience. I've communicated with a few people who have had a "Big Fish" in their life who have had the same reaction. It's a very personal favorite.
