you mean where marvel does all the work and they get half the money? And the success rubs off on them by perception? yeah I think they're ok with that. They get all of the money.

They get all of the money. That doesn't make any sense. Why would Marvel agree to that? Sony pay for everything, they also pay Marvel Studios a flat fee for making the movie and they allow Marvel the use of Spidey in the MCU, but in return Sony keep all the money from the box office, Marvel also make all the money off of any merchandise and maybe licensing for ads or McDonalds or whatever, does McDonalds still do movie tie in stuff?
So yeah Marvel make a flat fee and takes 0 risks as they don't have to pay for anything Sony foots the bill for everything in relation to the Spidey films under their current deal, it's easy money for them really.

Then fuck yeah SONY's happy with the deal!

No problem, the only issue is that the deal they have is about to run out and after 2 successful Spidey films and the success of Venom and Spider-Verse, Sony maybe feeling cocky and try demanding either a slice of the MCU money for films featuring Spidey or a cut of the films merch back to continue the deal, or less cocky maybe just a usage fee for when Marvel use Spidey.
As has been discussed in this thread this is the same company that gave away their 50% of merchandising rights for Marvel's 5% of film rights, these people aint always all that bright, they maybe short sighted and think they have the advantage over Disney, so whilst they could be happy with the results of the deal they may not like the parameters and try flexing on Marvel and god knows what will happen then.
I dunno I just smile at the idea of Sony being like yeah we had a hit with Venom and did good with Spider-Verse we can demand more from the biggest movie studio in the world with the most successful film franchise in the world, because they need us more than we need them

Maybe I’m underestimating Tom Rothman, but I don’t think Sony has enough hubris to try and boss Disney around. Besides, Sony and Marvel seem to have a fairly good working relationship. Even before Sony made that deal to let Spidey appear in the MCU, Marvel always seemed to be on better terms with Sony than they were with Fox. If I recall, Marvel even agreed to release TWS in April so that Sony would be able to release TASM2 in May.

I have no idea to be honest but if there was a mandate that FFH had to break $1B or Sony were pulling Spidey going forward then I wouldn't put it past them tbh.
They may have a great relationship but the thing could be that Sony as they are now recognise the folly of past mistakes and may want to rectify things going forward, hence wanting back atleast some of the merch rights, because if they can get that then that's a given they have until they give it up, so even if their usage deal which they renew for 5 more films runs out Sony would have merch rights back going forward until they stop making Spidey films.

The billion-dollar stipulation doesn't make sense on any level; it's antithetical to the deal that is already in place between Sony and Marvel Studios. If Sony ends its agreement with Marvel Studios, they can't make Spider-Man films set in the MCU. They only have the half baked Spider-Verse to lean on. And despite Venom's success, that's still a gamble. A big part of the reason FFH was so successful is because of the lift it gained from Endgame. Why would Sony say, we want to go back to the TASM days and go it alone? Is it because they want to save the modest production fee Marvel charges them to oversee the current iteration of the character? If their motivation is to make up for the loss of merchandising rights (they so foolishly sold), there is a better way to accomplish that. They should give Marvel more control of the character and not less. No one has ever determined - definitively - if Sony made any money from Civil War. If Spider-Man appears in any MCU films outside of his franchise, they should take advantage of that. They're never going to get the merchandising rights back. That ship has sailed. Marvel likely has controls in place that would prevent them from being sold without approval that comes from the very top (i.e., the CEO and the Board). And, Sony doesn't have what it takes to go against Disney head to head. In a war between Disney and Sony, all Disney need do is calendar Sony out of existence. Sure, they can choose to be adversarial and greedy in the short term but, in the long view, they essentially have two choices; join or die.
