One of the most borderline players ever. When you look at him in his prime, you thought "Hall of Famer". But could have said the same for others. Played of lousy teams for much of his career. Is the lack of two homers hurting him, because it shouldn't. There are worse players in there. I'd say Dale Murphy was a better player thab Harold Baines. You can argue the "is the bar too low" all you want but the bar has been set. If the Bobby Wallace's and Phil Rizzuto's are enshrined, then Murph should be.

Close in a lot of places - - 7x All-Star, 3x Silver Slugger, 3x Gold Glove, but 600 more hits, .290 to .265 batting average. Strangest fact I found out about Parker: he's in the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame. It's not like the Reds are some fly-by-night organization that needs to reward guys who played for them for four years.

He is a Braves legend not a phillies one.
With all the scumbag junkies, drunks, woman beaters, steroid abusing cheaters etc... in the sport you would think a wholesome family man like Murph would get the nod just to class up the Hall.

He is a Braves legend not a phillies one. With all the scumbag junkies, drunks, woman beaters, steroid abusing cheaters etc... in the sport you would think a wholesome family man like Murph would get the nod just to class up the Hall. Meh. Nobody really cares about Atlanta. They can't even sell out playoff games and lose NHL teams to Winnipeg, Canada. I think if you presented him to the Hall as a Phillie he'd garner more votes. Paul Coffey is a Flyers legend too. Nobody cares about Edmonton. Chris Webber is a Sixers legend too. Nobody cares about Sacramento. Michael Vick is an Eagles legend too. Nobody cares about - well - we've already been down this road......

Murphy is the perfect example of the Hall of Good. 6 great seasons, the rest were good or far below. Does not belong in any shape or form. Because he won 2 MVPs people think he should be in. He's like Mattingly, people really remember his great seasons far more than the multitude of average or below he had.
But now Jack Morris and Harold Baines are in. Anyone gets in now.

He was before my time as a Braves fan so all I can go by is stats. He seems like the borderline type to me. As others have said Hall of Very Good. His peak didnt last long enough imo. I'm also stingier than baseball is about who belongs. It's become a joke now just throwing guys in like Baines. Murphy deserves it more than him. Same goes for a guy like Fred McGriff.

McGriff isn't boarderline at all, he should have been in already. It's a joke people talk about Bonds and Sosa and juicers deserving to get in but a guy who put up great numbers without juicing doesn't get in. If he had juiced, he would have hit well over 600 and he'd be there with Bonds as people say "hey, everyone was doing it, he should get in."
