kingslayer Nope. it's simply there are only 152 movies (was 151 but I recently shifted Back to the Future (1985) back into my favorites upon a recent re-watch, which makes 152 now) I score a 7/10 or higher and anything I score a 7/10 or higher is among My Favorite Movies in general. there is no restriction on what movies make it, it's simply comes back to once a movie reaches a certain level of all around enjoyment it becomes a favorite. so it just happened to be 152 movies. If you mean 'great' as in more upper echelon status, say 9/10 or 10/10, then I agree. but it's among the top 7% (i.e. 152/2250+) of ALL movies I have seen, which means it's better than 93%+ of all of the movies I have seen. so depending on what standard you want to use it might look pretty great as the 'better than 93% of all movies I have seen' makes it appear pretty great. but when I just compare it to my upper echelon movies, then it's not that great, but comfortably above average at the least.
Ah, I suppose i have lower standards, I have something like 400 films probably i've ranked 7/10 and up (was going to check my IMDB list to see but have tv shows and episodes mixed in not sure exactly).
7/10 for me is an entertaining enough film but has enough issues that I can't really say that I love it. That is the lowest rating that I'd accept in any kind of "Favorites List" myself. With The Long Kiss Goodnight I think the interaction between Geena Davis and Samuel L Jackson is what did it for me, certainly the story itself is nothing to praise heh. Seeing Jackson not be the badass as he usually is was an amusing thing to see for me.

It's a fun action flick and now a Christmas classic, like Die Hard.

kingslayerAgreed. it's what I consider the low end score range of movies enjoyable enough to be called favorites. p.s. I tend to have a small amount of movies I score a 6-6.5/10 which are movies that I consider a bit shy of favorite movie status. but like you said, they are not among my VERY top movies, but still are strong enough to warranty claiming it's among my favorites. Agreed. but I tend to think stories can only carry a movie so far as it needs other factors to stand out which comes back to the style of the movie with the cast and how they interact with chemistry etc. plus, like I have said before... movies are not about doing something new/original, but taking a idea that's already been done but doing it well. I think The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996) is a nice example of something nothing fancy in the story dept but carried in other areas to make it stand out.
