www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/08/01/nats-trade-hunter-strickland-sets-table-spicy-showdowns-with-bryce-harper/After trading for Blue Jays right-hander Daniel Hudson and Mariners lefty Roenis Elías, General Manager Mike Rizzo closed a deal for another Seattle reliever: Hunter Strickland, best known as the guy who drilled Bryce Harper with a 98-mph fastball on Memorial Day in 2017 because he was upset that Harper crushed a pair of home runs off him in the National League Division Series . . . three years earlier. The plunking prompted Harper to charge the mound and fling his helmet in the general vicinity of Strickland, sparking a brawl that ended former Nationals fan favorite Mike Morse’s career. Morse, playing for the Giants at the time, suffered a concussion after stepping between Harper and onrushing teammate Jeff Samardzija. Post-concussion symptoms sidelined Morse for the remainder of the season, after which he retired.

Strickland could throw at him again and he'd still swing at it.

The Philds and Nats have been neck and neck all season for that Wild Card spot. The stretch run will be fun. One thing I will say is that the Phils have a pretty easy schedule over the next month, but on the other hand they have not shown that they can capitalize with any consistency yet this season.

As crazy as it sounds I am more worried about their hitting. They go through these stretches where they cannot hit the broad side of a barn. The Phils were SUPPOSED to have a crappy pen all year and shoddy pitching. I expected it. They were also supposed to have great hitting to make up for it. Granted, there have been a few injuries, but still. The offense downright sucks most nights.

Their pitching is inconsistent too. But yeah, mostly that offense has been atrocious. Cardinals fans can at least look forward to having Matt Carpenter for 2 more years though. Hell, maybe even sign him to another extension.

Remember around this time last year when Carpenter was a chic dark horse MVP candidate? Me neither.
