A Streep film I do dislike and watched quite recently, is Falling In Love - 84'. Hadn't seen for years and was looking forward to it. It had no oomph and was just dreary. I disliked that as well. Now The Iron Lady her performance I do think is laughable. It comes off like an SNL version of Thatcher. I have issues with the entire representation\presentation of The Iron Lady overall as a production. However, there is one thing about Thatcher herself, and she did appear to come across as a caricature of real being. Streep's acting technique was perfect to portray her. It was the soft, cosy and flat script that let it down and lacked the satire and irony that could have elevated the film to better heights.

madame slovak said... "so it's far easier to find more negative than positive" what a surprise.
Seriously though, Streep is no where near as good as the Oscars and the like make her out to be. I doubt I am the only person with this opinion either.
with that said... I know your trying to suggest I say nothing but negative stuff but it's not always the case around here as there are still a small portion of movies etc I pretty much praise. but it should not be surprising as most movies (and many other things in general) just ain't that great and my opinions tend to reflect this fact. some people tend to be too generous with praising movies and, I don't know about you, but I would give more weight to a persons opinion on something if they are the type who don't overpraise many things in general vs someone who routinely says 'this person is great' or 'this movie is great' etc.
so if your going to make fun of me, at least come up with a half way decent reason to do so.

Who knows what I would have thought about her performance had the rest of the movie fit with it. Then again, most people think Gary Oldman nails Churchhill in Darkest Hour, but I have watched the real Winston Churchhill and Gary Oldman doesn't sell me. Even the quiet moments with his wife his performance is unconvincing imo. Here is the thing. Gary Oldman exaggerates an already large personality and that just doesn't work here.

Haven't seen Oldman's performance yet.
My sentiments regarding Iron Lady and while I don't hate it, it really isn't worth repeat viewings.
