It's odd that there are several characters in this thread who already have been played by multiple actors. I guess in a manner of speaking you're not wrong. You can't imagine the character played by someone else because it's already happened.

You can't imagine the character played by someone else because it's already happened. James Bond I can understand since the series is so long and old and we are used to it by now. It feels awkward to me when they do change out actors in a movie that is part of a series. Like Julianne Moore for Jodie Foster in Hannibal. Or in TV shows such as a different actor playing Lionel on The Jeffersons. Can't they just invent a whole new character for that role like they did for MASH when an actor left? How do you feel about that?

... there are several characters in this thread who already have been played by multiple actors. For me, it's a matter of the first person who played the character BEING the character and anyone else who played the part were just " playing the part."
My prime example being Connery = Bond.
