Fade-outs on fabulous faces: Sunset Blvd (1950) "Alright, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my closeup."
The Wizard Of Oz (1939) "Oh, Auntie Em, there's no place like home."
Queen Christina (1933) City Lights (1931)

There was a fifties sci-fi film that ended with the dawn of a new era. "The End" was superimposed, then "The Beginning". Anyone know the film?

Someone else offered that as the answer. Another mystery ending: A war movie from the fifties or so ends with: "We would like to thank the United States Marine Corps, not only for assistance in making this film but also for Guadalcanal,Tarawa, Saipan, Iwo Jima...."

Edwin S. Porter's THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY (1903) The final scene, the man (Justus D Barnes) shooting at the camera, was the inspiration for the final scene in Goodfellas (1990), where Joe Pesci replicates this.
