Acceptable or not?

It really does depend on the circumstance. For instance, I don’t think any Cleveland Browns fan should’ve automatically became a Baltimore Ravens fan when they moved. The MKDons / Wimbledon scenario in this instance is interesting, as is the Manchester United / FC United of Manchester scenario. Newly created teams also offer a different scenario. I don’t really follow a singular MLB club, but I’d definitely support an expansion club if they appeal to me exclusively.

No one has any respect for someone who changes teams. They should be shunned by society for the dilettante scum they are.

I saw that thread but the grammar in the title was so poor that I ignored it.

In theory, especially if you live within that team’s geographic area, you should never change teams. You ride or die with that team. However, there are egregious examples of teams essentially abusing their fan base to the point that the fan has no other choice. I mean, what do fans of the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, New York Knicks, Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings, and speaking for myself here, the Philadelphia Flyers get from those teams that is remotely positive? Do you pray that 40 years from now Baker Mayfield comes along? It’s gotta be tough.

I'll just quote myself from that other thread.

Not acceptable.
I like to see teams succeed from 'afar' - i.e. division rivals, underdog stories like the Lions and Browns over the years; however never label these teams 'My Team'.

Do you pray that 40 years from now Baker Mayfield comes along? It’s gotta be tough. But its all the better when success comes along. The 2004 Red Sox season was 1000x sweeter than any season because it was the first championship for the team in living memory. It erased all the "Curse of the Bambino" and the "1918" chants. Would that have been as cool if the Sox had won in 1986 or 1975? And the worm can turn anytime. Look at New England before Brady-Belichick. San Francisco before Walsh-Montana. The Niners were a joke before than and even though that haven't had the success recently, they still have the glory years. When it does happen to the Bills, it will be awesome. I wouldn't want to be a fan of a team that always seems relevant. To answer the original question, I don't have a problem with anyone switching teams. It's a sports team that doesn't support you. Betraying your favorite team isn't like betraying your family. If someone around here would abandon the Bills for the patriots, they would get a shitload of grief, but I think alot of that would be the view that you are dumping on Buffalo. A lot of people here are touchy about that. The rest of the country makes fun of us, we don't do it ourselves. Bu bandwagon jumping is different. A person who has dumped their Golden State Warriors stuff for Toronto Raptors stuff and had dumped their San Antonio Spurs stuff for Warriors stuff is no real fan.

I think its acceptable if the owner is just such an asshat and wont sell the team leaving top free agents wanting to stay away. I'm talking about the Knicks here. Would anybody blame Knicks fans for jumping ship until Dolan sells or dies?

People fall in and out of love with teams for various reasons.
I support Forest Green Rovers.
If they did a huge U-turn on their ethos***, or started accepting sponsorship from somebody I strongly disapproved of, I would drop them.
I've lived all over Britain... I support one local team or other wherever I have lived.
I like Celtic and Hibs for my own reason.
Overall, I like Zos' earlier idea that you should support one of the three league teams nearest to you (and as many non-league teams as you like).
Support who you want... The only thing I don't like is glory chasers.
*** couldn't see that happening BTW, it's too much a part of our identity now. The club would lose a big chunk of it's fan base if they ditched the 'eco-football' ethos now.
